NASHVILLE, TENN. – February 21, 2020 — Some Things Won’t Last, the highly anticipated debut solo album of Nashville singer/songwriter Adam Chaffins, was released today via EMPIRE distribution. The debut of Some Things Won’t Last will be celebrated with an album release show tonight at 7:30 p.m. at The Local in Nashville featuring Adam Chaffins and special guests.

Listen to Some Things Won’t Last here: https://empire.lnk.to/STWLChaffins a songwriting vocalist and classically trained, multi-instrumentalist moved from his native Eastern Kentucky to Nashville a decade ago where he quickly became in demand as both a session musician and as a member of several high-profile bands, including The Deadly Gentlemen and Town Mountain.

Some Things Won’t Last is the next leg of Chaffins’ professional journey and the birth of a dream. The album was born from the constant progression of his music, honoring his past experiences while always moving forward, creating a new palate of sound that might not have existed before and inviting diverse audiences that might not have come together before.  The album is comprised of nine songs, seven penned by Chaffins, one co-written by Chaffins and Jerry Salley, and a cover of Keith Whitley’s classic “I’m Over You.”

The album is as unique as Chaffins’ talent.  Chaffins’ versatility as an instrumentalist — primarily accompanying his songs on electric and upright bass — combined with his smooth baritone vocals reflect notes of many genres but fits securely into none. The music reflects Chaffins, past and present, weaving together his personal and musical experiences to create a sound and mood that is distinctly unique while being comfortably familiar.

American Songwriter says “The record is a fresh mix of songs packaged with other material took from Chaffins’ vault from years of songwriting, a tribute track, a writing collaboration and a vocal feature with Aubrie Sellers.  The current single titled “Who I Am” is what Chaffins described as “a marquee piece in the album,” explaining that it summed up the album’s tone and story.”

“Going solo is something I always wanted to do,” Chaffins told American Songwriter.  “I loved being in a band, having a collective thing, but it takes a lot of work. Time had gone by and I had my opportunities with that.  Creating a new sound as a bass player and someone who plays different instruments, is always something I’ve wanted to do. I wanted to make music without restrictions. “

Audiences are recognizing what Nashville already knows. The early release of several songs captured critic and audience acclaim and garnered Chaffins an invitation to perform at the 2019 AMERICANAFEST, where NPR highlighted him as one of the “best new artists playing AmericanaFest.”

Chaffins highly applauded reimagined Keith Whitley cover “I’m Over You (Live) from Southern Ground Nashville” — a video companion to the studio version on the album — garnered both fan and peer recognition on CMT Music and from Rolling Stone, which called it “cinematic … that prizes layers over dense heaps of sound.  NPR declared Chaffins is “attuned to the potential sophistication of downhome forms – the jazzy complexity and expressive depth of bluegrass and country” with a “billowy, rhythmic unplugged rendition” that “artfully captures transparent denial and agonized pining.” Fans voted the video onto the CMT Music 12-Pack Countdown for seven straight weeks, where the video reached No. 2.  Watch the video here.

Chaffins’ original to garner immediate CMT fan support is the video “Her,” premiered by Billboard.  The lush, yet evocative melodies were penned by Chaffins and is the persona of a brooding, melancholy young man caught in the throes of a past love and loss. Fans have voted “Her” onto the CMT Music 12-Pack Countdown for six straight weeks, reaching No. 2 the past three weeks.  Watch the video for “Her” here.

Recorded at Zac Brown’s Southern Ground Nashville, Some Things Won’t Last was conceived when producer/musician Ethan Ballinger (Lee Ann Womack, Aubrie Sellers, Andrew Combs) and GRAMMY award-winning engineer/co-producer Brandon Bell (Zac Brown Band, The Wood Brothers, Sarah Jarosz) merged their visions with Chaffins’, embracing his wide-ranging sonic palette and unique voice. The resulting album features a range from fuzz-toned, drum-driven rockers to ballads laced with symphonic swells. It lays bare the many layers of Chaffins and his music.

Chaffins assertive, soulful voice and his command over a band’s energy in Some Things Won’t Lastinvites his audience to listen and to feel. It is an album where its uniqueness will be embraced as a familiar friend.
