ACTCS STUDENTS COMPETE IN SKILLSUSA EVENTS

ACTCS competes with 140 students in SkillsUSA events

ACTC hosted more than 140 high school students from five area career and technical centers for the annual SkillsUSA Kentucky competitions on Feb. 23.

Drafting CAD

Students represented Boyd County High School Career and Technical Education Center, Carter County High School Career and Technical Center, Elliott County High School; Greenup County High School Area Technical Center and Russell High School Area Technical Center, which includes students from Russell, Raceland-Worthington and Fairview High Schools. ACTC students in participated in auto and diesel postsecondary contests.

Skills USA Kentucky is a chapter of the national organization that serves industrial, trade and technical students in area technology centers, public high school and career and technical centers. Annual competitions focus on leadership and technical skills.

Quiz Bowl

The regional competitions for the SkillsUSA Northeast Region-District 14 included contests at ACTC’s Technology Drive and Roberts Drive. Carpentry skills contests were conducted at the Carpentry Union. Contest winners are eligible to participate in state competitions later this month.

Welding competition

Sponsors include Carpentry Union No 472, Indiana, KY, Ohio, Regional Council of Carpenters, Clay’s Performance Constriction, Enerfab, IBEW of Portsmouth, Ohio, and IBEW of Huntington, West Virginia.

Jesse Brown and Eric Bays from State Electric Supply, and Jerry Yates and Kevin Howard of the Carpenters Union helped in the judging as well.

Job Interview: First, Pranesh Patel, Russell; second, Brandon Fannin, Carter; third, Bryan Parsons, Carter.

Job Skills Demonstration (A): First, Jarrod Buckler, Carter; second, Kody Hutchinson, Carter; third, Jordan Colegrove, Greenup.

Job Skills Demonstration Open: First, Ashley Thomas, Russell.

Prepared Speech: First, Donald Blevins, Carter; second, William Barker, Carter.

Quiz Bowl: First, Noah Caudill, Savannah Ramey, Matthew Kouns and Hunter McMillen, Carter; second, Isaac Duncan, Kody Kline, Duston Shoemaker and Eric Carter, Carter; third, Derrick Bradley, Dayemion Jordan, Ethan Hale, Dakota Rayburn and Cadin Sparks, Carter.

Welding Art Sculpture: First, Chelsy Wise, Greenup; second, Eric Lawson, Greenup; third, Caleb Sturgill, Carter.
