KENTUCKY POWER UPDATE

Dear Kentucky Power customer,
There has been a lot going on at Kentucky Power this year, so we thought it might be helpful to provide you with a few updates on the company and the overall energy industry.
Kentucky Power Sale
Kentucky Power is in the process of being purchased by Liberty, a company that has electric, water and gas utilities all across the United States. The transfer of ownership was announced last fall, and we continue to work through the regulatory approvals necessary to finalize the sale. You will start to see information in your mailbox, online and elsewhere once the transition occurs later this year. Future updates can also be found here .
Energy Costs
Just like everyone is feeling the effects of what is happening at the gas pump, in the grocery stores and in everything that we purchase, it’s the same situation with energy costs. Coal and natural gas are the primary natural resources we use to generate electricity at our power plants, and prices nationwide have continued to climb over the past year. As inflation and fuel costs have risen, the fuel adjustment line on your bill has likely caused your monthly bill to increase. This line item on your bill fluctuates monthly to adjust for volatile fuel costs.
Using Energy Wisely
While we cannot control fuel prices, we can offer some ideas to reduce or manage your bill with Kentucky Power.
  • Join the thousands of other customers who have chosen to even out the ups and downs of monthly bills by signing up for the Average Monthly Payment (AMP) plan.
  • Check on receiving a one-time payment extension if you just need a little extra help, or arrange a monthly payment plan if you need to spread your payment out over several months. Both of these options can help you get through a financial crunch.
  • Reduce your usage. Study your bill and learn about your electric usage. Find ways to reduce the number of kilowatt hours you use a month.
  • If your house is not energy efficient, then take steps and install measures to make it better. Start now to prepare for winter. There are many low-cost measures such as caulking around windows, sealing leaking ductwork, raising or lowering (depending on the season) your thermostat by a few degrees, adding insulation, along with many other ideas to be found here.
  • Kentucky Power and the Kentucky Housing Corporation both have income-qualified weatherization programs that are administered by the local community action agencies.
  • There are payment assistance programs available as well and information can be found here.
If you ever have questions about your bill, or you are having difficulty paying it, please remember that we want to help.  Visit our website at kentuckypower.com, call us or contact with us through social media to discuss options.
Sincerely,
Brett Mattison
President & COO

I nearly had a heart attack when I looked at my bill today. Thanks AEP and the Biden administration. Anybody giving away food this month?
