On Thursday June 16, 2022 The Louisa Rotary Club had a regular scheduled meeting at First Baptist Church from 12-1PM. Louisa Rotary President Patton R Hart welcomed everyone and called the Rotary to Order. After the Prayer, Pledge of Allegiance and Pledge of The Four Way Test, Phillip Daniel (Dan) Smith led the Rotary Song. Next Rotary President Hart asked for any members having an Anniversary or Birthday’s to celebrate this week, there were none.
Hart then asked Tammy Smith to come forward, Smith is a Louisa Rotary Member as of today June 16, 2022. Congratulations Tammy Smith!
‘Burger of the Month’ by LC Tourism
Rotary President Hart then asked for Guests. Susie Chambers, Rotary Sergeant of Arms announced that The LC Tourism Chairman Wes Kingsmore was in attendance. Kingsmore announced that the Tourism Board is sponsoring the ‘Burger of the Month’ at participating restaurants in Louisa. Restaurants would create a burger for the week, they can keep the same burger and anyone purchasing a burger will be given one chance in a drawing for a Gas Grill and a $50 Gift Certificate to one participating restaurant whose entrant’s name is drawn. Winners will be announced at the Fourth of July Parade on July 2, 2022. This Burger Contest will start on June 24 and end July 1, 2022.
YOUTH DAY CELEBRATED
“This day is designated as Youth Day in recognizing the outstanding young men and women for their remarkable achievements in leadership and education. Youth is one of our avenues of service in Rotary. We are delighted to have youth representatives with the RYLA who attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy, the Rotary youth essay participants and the Rotary Scholarship recipients. First and foremost, I would like to extend my best wishes and congratulations to our youth for their hard work. The future is promising for all and the best is yet to be! We celebrate your outstanding efforts and accomplishments you have made with Louisa Rotary,” Hart said.
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards
Hart said, “We were pleased to send four students from the Lawrence County Schools to attend RYLA – the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards program that was held in Versailles, Kentucky. Our youth representative’s who attended include Zeb Slone, son of Harold and Marsha Slone, Holly Hall, daughter of Lacy Hall and Shirley Newsome, Ashley Maynard, daughter of Crystal Chaffin, and Gabriel Bowling, son of Les and Angel D. Bowling. We would like to recognize them and show our appreciation with lunch for representing Louisa Rotary in building leadership, providing them a team-based adventure experience and lifetime skills to be more productive and future leaders of our community.” Zeb Slone come forward and thanked the Louisa Rotary for this opportunity.”
Rotarian President Patton R Hart said “Louisa Rotary was pleased to offer a Youth Essay Contest in the Spring of this:year on the topic of “What’s right about the community of Lawrence County in celebration of “Bicentennial 200th Anniversary?” We encouraged all students with Lawrence County High School to participate in the Essay competition and display their writing skills and express their thoughts on the community of Lawrence County. The judging panel selected Joseph (Joey) M. Moore as having the best and winning essay. He is the recipient of $250 monetary award and a recognition plaque for his outstanding work. Joseph is the son of James and Christy Moore.
The judging panel would like to acknowledge and salute the efforts of the following young people with a monetary award: Shelbie Hughes, Brooke Neal and William Copley. The Louisa Rotary Club was pleased to present over $7,000 in scholarship awards and honor a total of seven outstanding graduates.
The first scholarship that I would like to present is the William A. Cheek Memorial Scholarship award based upon a quality GPA of at least 2.5 and above as well as the worthy recipient embodies the ideals of Rotary’s 4-way test dealing the truth, fair to all concerned, building good will, better friendships and being beneficial to all concerned. The scholarship award is named after the former Superintendent of Lawrence County Schools that served as Superintendent from the fall of 1938 until 1974 for 36 years and Mr. Cheek had the privilege of serving as Past District Governor for our Rotary District 6740. It is with pleasure that I present the William A. Cheek Memorial Scholarship award to Bryce Blevins, son of Ben and Beth Blevins.
Louisa Rotary Club is proud to have an Interact Club open to students of Lawrence County High School that promotes the Rotary mission and theme with our young men and women. Lindsey Case is the school’s sponsor and fellow Rotarian for the club. We are pleased to present the 2022 Interact Scholarship Award of $1,000 to Shelbie Hughes, the daughter of Amanda Frum and Travis Hughes.
Louisa Rotary was honored to present a recognition award to an outstanding senior of the Lawrence County High School graduating class for the distinguished service to the community and school. This year’s recipient of the Outstanding Leadership and Citizenship award for excellence in academics, leadership, community service and exhibiting the Rotary motto of Service above Self is Luke Johnson, the son of Scott and Molly Johnson.”
“A Scholarship Award was presented with the emphasis toward Vocational Service which is an important avenue of service to Rotary International. The Louisa Rotary Club decided to honor the memory of Rotary President, Patton R Hart’s Father with the Joe A. Hart Memorial Vocational Scholarship Award. The $1,000 Scholarship award is presented to Brian Nelson, the son of Michael and Jessica Nelson.” Hart said.

Louisa Rotary is proud to recognize the young men and women of Rotarians who are members of Louisa Rotary that have family members graduating from local schools. The scholarship recipients of Louisa Rotary with $1,000 award each are as follows Bailee Hinkle granddaughter of Rotarian Marti Moore, Joseph (Joey) Moore nephew of Rotarian Ginger Copley and Ryland Wheeler grandson of Rotarian Carolyn Thompson.
Rotarian Hart said, “We are at the crossroads where we must steer our future course and chart our destination to always be the best that we can be. It is up to us working together that we can rise to the next level. Accept the challenge and realize that the power of one can make a difference. As we continue to learn from our glorious past, seize the present and to embrace change for the future, let us unite our efforts to lead beyond our expectations and to steer our course to “Chart New Horizons” with vision, faith and action. We wish all of our youth and all the graduates the very best in all their future endeavors. We hope all of your dreams will become a reality as you pursue your promising future.”
