Wilmore, Ky. — Asbury senior and former Lawrence Co. softball standout Abby Fletcher received the prestigious Frank B. and Lucille Fryman Award this season.

Frank B. and Lucille Fryman Award — This is an award for student-athletes that honors former staff members Frank and Lucille Fryman. Both gave loving service to Asbury University for several years.

Mr. Fryman worked in the physical plant and Mrs. Fryman worked in the college bookstore. Their son, Bill, is a graduate of Asbury University and the father of Travis Fryman who played professionally for the Cleveland Indians. This award is for demonstrated excellence as a varsity student-athlete, for strong Christian witness and demonstrated attitude of service, and demonstrated potential for leadership. It is open to all academically eligible student-athletes.

Fletcher will be going into her senior year with the Eagles and has become one of the leaders on her squad. She was the starting catcher all year her junior year and hit .284 with 2 doubles and drove in 12 runs in 27 games. In 2021 her sophomore year she started 38 out of 39 games and hit .277 with 5 doubles and drove in 16 runs. She had her season cut short her freshman year. Did some catching then also.

Abby is doing a research fellowship this summer and going to Puerto Rico for a mission trip with the softball team on Saturday.

PLAYER’S COMMENTS

“… I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to play Lawrence County Softball. Kenny Horn has built a program that feels more like family, and I loved being a part of it. Kenny has had a great impact on my life, and I know that I would not be at Asbury without him.”

“… Playing softball at Asbury has been an extension of LC Softball. It has been such a blessing to me to play for two Christ-centered programs that have challenged me to grow both as a player and as a person.”

“… I am so appreciative of being selected for the Frank and Lucille Fryman Award, but I know that any of my other teammates are equally deserving. Our coach, Megan Curry, emphasizes the importance of selfless service in leadership, and she and my teammates demonstrate that daily.”

“… Both programs have loved me and taken care of me more than I could ever ask. The Lord has blessed me with two softball families that point me towards Him, and I am grateful.”
