LCHS PRINCIPAL PROMOTED, FLETCHER SAYS, NEW ONE COMING SOON

Dr. Rob Fletcher is using the current law to replace LCHS principal Christy Moore (inset) who is moving to a new position in the school system.

LCHS principal Christy Moore is leaving her post at the high school but she won’t be going far, according to Lawrence Supt. Robbie Fletcher.

Fletcher said today that Mrs. Moore is moving to a new position in the school system.

“She moved to a District Resource Teacher role that was vacated when we moved Janice Salyer to head up our guidance counselors with a focus on mental health of students (and possibly staff, when needed).

“Mrs. Moore will be coaching new teachers as well as working with our career technical teachers (and other duties assigned by the superintendent),” Fletcher added.

New legislation passed by the Ky. Legislature this year gives local school superintendents the authority to choose curriculum — an increasingly contentious issue in some school districts across the country.

Also under the bill, the selection of school principals has been put in the hands of superintendents beginning July 14.

Republican Sen. John Schickel, the bill’s lead sponsor, said the goal is to improve a local school governance system that’s turned “dysfunctional” because it’s often “in conflict with itself”

Do the new site based rules apply or is that July 14?

“The new principal selection process does not take effect until July 14th (which is rather odd).  I do not feel that waiting until July 14th would be fair to the new principal nor to the school community,” Fletcher said.  “We are moving forward with the current process so we may get the position filled by mid-June.”

Absolutely I know it is a demotion. She gets to keep her pay. She was demoted because evidently she was not doing what was required as a principal. Trust me I know.

She was removed from her position because she wasn’t doing her job. She was not promoted, she was demoted.

      • Joe C says:

She was not removed. She asked for this job.
