Farrell Sturgill, 81, of Ashland, KY went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 27, 2022 at King’s Daughters Medical Center.

He was born September 20, 1940 in Blaine, KY to the late Opal Boggs Butler and Glen Sturgill. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Merrell.

After graduating from Blaine High School, he hopped the mail truck to Louisa and joined the US Marines, where he continued playing his favorite sport basketball. He loved traveling and fishing trips, but one of his biggest thrills was to beat a golfing buddy out of a quarter.  Farrell was a 57 year member of Jake Rice Lodge #606 F&AM in Blaine, KY.

Farrell never met a stranger, bringing a laugh and smile to all that knew him.  If he could tell you the best thing he ever did, it was that he gave his life to the Lord.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie, son Tony and Vicki Evans; special grandson Tanner Evans; uncle Estill Boggs; nephew Mike Sturgill; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be Monday, May 30, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Buchanan Chapel United Methodist Church at Zelda, KY. Masonic Services will be conducted at 7:00PM.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Buchanan Chapel United Methodist Church with full military honors.  Burial will follow in Patty Flat Cemetery at Flat Gap, Johnson County, KY.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donation to Buchanan Chapel United Methodist Church, 81 Buchanan Chapel Rd, Catlettsburg, KY 41129.

Young Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Mr. Sturgill and his family.
