Wes Kingsmore, Pat Hart President of Rotary and Ellen Taylor Rotary Secretary

The Louisa Rotary Club weekly meeting was held Thursday March 10, 2022 from 12PM to 1PM at the First Baptist Church in Louisa, Kentucky.

After Pledge of Allegiance, the Four Way Test and song, Rotary President Pat Hart asked for anniversaries and birthdays, Harold Slone is celebrating his birthday this week. Hart then introduced Guest Speaker Debbie Cordle Board member with her Special Guest Wes Kingsmore, Chairman of the Tourism Board for Lawrence County, Kentucky.

Kingsmore, Chairman of the Tourism Board, stated that we have to focus on the positive good here in Lawrence County and his job as Chairman of the Tourism Board is to invite others to see what Lawrence County, Kentucky has. His thoughts and direction are to create things that make this a better place to live and in today’s digital world, word of mouth will get them here.

Kingsmore stated that the LC Tourism Board is currently working on:

1. Improving Trails
2. Hiking
3. Biking
4. Boating
5. Motorsport Trails

Members and guests of the Rotary

Kingsmore stated that Motorsport trails are very popular and we are in a great location because Route 32 had been noted as the best motorcycle road in the State of Kentucky. He explained that a non-profit ‘Backroads of Appalachia’ is helping to promote our county. They will have an app available in May that will give turn by turn directions and list local businesses along the routes. Lawrence County and Louisa will have a part in three of the routes.

A Mustang Car Club is planning to be here soon in a 2-day event including both Lawrence and Boyd counties. They will line-up on the streets of Louisa for a few hours during the stay.

The Tourism Board wants to support local events, Bicentennial events over the next year, music events of all types, talent shows and Fallsburg summer stage.

Also on the list for the Tourism board is to get the youth involved in service to its community. He said in today’s world there seems to be an erosion of the desire to serve our community, No real sense of service.

While writing this story I stopped and asked my 18 yr old daughter if she would like to work for the Tourism board she said “How much does it pay?” I stated “Oh it doesn’t pay by the hour, it’s volunteer work” of course we all know what she said “I’m not working anywhere for Free!!” but volunteering in today’s world mean a sense of community amongst friends from the same county.

Pat Hart ended the meeting by commenting about the rotary’s fundraiser, tickets to “Steel Magnolia’s.”

Rotary was adjourned.
