While it seems like a late Christmas present, on January 19, the U.S. Army announced the Civil Works studies project’s and program’s that the Corps would implement in Fiscal Year 2022 with the $22.81 Billion in supplemental funding and $170,000 of the money is coming to Yatesville Lake.
The funding is provided in two recently enacted laws, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act; and the 2022 Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act.
The Army Corps of Engineer’s received $170,000 to keep the Yatesville Lake looking pristine. Brian Maka the Public Affairs Officer at the Huntington District at the Army Corps said yesterday that the package under IIJA associated with Yatesville is for Environmental Trail Stabilization and that they were awaiting implementation guidance and are “working across our portfolio to plan resources and update project schedules”.
In other words no decision has been made as to how the money will be spent. Got any ideas?
The Yatesville Lake currently has 3 trails: The Multi-use trail, The Pleasant Ridge Trail System and The Mary Ingles Trail System. All trails are for hikers but The Multi use Trail is also for backpackers, mountain biking and horseback riding and is operated by The Saddle club, owned by Lawrence County Fiscal Court.
Yatesville has so much to offer our community, and we should all be pleased that projects like this are available to All. See you on the trails…

For such a republican majority county they sure like what the democrats bring to them.
I hike and ride horses on these trails, they are so beautiful but the horse trails in particular were not laid out very well. It would be great if they used some qualified ,trained trail masters to help volunteers and fix the creek crossings or move the trail completely in some spots. I have ridden all over the US and these really are some of the prettiest trails around! Hope we can work on them, and expand. It would be wonderful
How about an ATV/dirt bike trail?
That would definitely bring in a lot visitors. Look at at the popularity of that place in Rush, KY and the very popular Hatfield Mccoy trails.
