LAWRENCE FISCAL COURT LOOKING AT REPLACING HVAC FEATURES WITH EXPECTED $2.9 MILLION

Members of the Lawrence Co. Fiscal Court along with other officials and staff enjoyed a nice home cooked (by Vince Doty) Christmas dinner with lots of dessert after the meeting Tuesday morning.

LOUISA, KY. — While the smell of Christmas dinner filled the big courtroom, the Lawrence County fiscal Court proceeded with a ‘usual’ type agenda for an appetizer.

Here’s what happened after the housekeeping measures including everything from the approval of minutes of the last meeting to approving the Treasurer’s report were dispatched without dissent. None of the amounts or details were read aloud.

Rita Parker was appointed to the Lawrence County Tourism board by motion of Rick Blackburn and second my Mouse Halcomb.
Sheriff Chuck Jackson’s performance bond and revenue bonds were both approved with all voting ‘yes’.
Numbers 13 and 14 on the agenda which were involved with the HAZMAT cleanup ordinance and setting fine amounts and proof requirements on spills was tabled by the court.
The court approved county clerk Chris Jobe’s budget and the salary cap he pays his employees at $3,759,000. on motion of David Pinson and second by Rick Blackburn.
DR. ROB FLETCHER ADDRESSED THE COURT AT TUESDAY’S MEETING.

A discussion was held concerning Covid sick pay which is in addition to the regular sick pay county employees and officials get. Lawrence Co. Schools chief Dr. Rob Fletcher told the court his system gives 10 COVID days (IF NEEDED AND PROVED) in addition to the regular days. He said the school system does require vaccination in order to qualify for the benefits but magistrate David Pinson dissented saying the court should go along and pay for the COVID days as they have been and not require vaccinations for the disease. No action was taken to change the court’s present system which pays workers for their sick days only.
Fletcher also wanted to thank the court for all the help (especially Kathy New) in the ‘Pack the Busses’ effort last week to help victims of the tornado in western Kentucky.
Terry Salyer, a HVAC representative spoke to the court for several minutes about the possibility of using a portion of the expected $2.9 million in COVID-ARH funds on a new HVAC system in all county buildings as well as replacement of lighting fixtures for the courthouse and annex. No action was taken on Salyer’s proposals but judge/executive Phil Carter told him his information was helpful and the court will keep it in consideration.
