HALLOWEEN TRICK OR TREATS SET, CITIES’ OCTOBER HOLIDAY PARTY EVENTS SCHEDULED IN LAWRENCE COUNTY AND NEIGHBORING COUNTIES

OCTOBER 17, 2021 – written by WADE QUEEN

Halloween events have been planned throughout the Big Sandy region, and Trick or Treat dates have also been scheduled, all of them tentatively nearly in sync for the same day and times, barring any future unexpected rough weather forecasts.

Lawrence County, Martin County, Johnson County, and Floyd County, along with Wayne County, W.VA., have all scheduled Saturday, October 30, as Trick or Treat, with Martin, Johnson and Floyd counties holding theirs from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

Trick or Treat in Louisa and the rest of Lawrence County are scheduled from 5:30 P.M. to 8 P.M.

Fort Gay, West Virginia, and the rest of Wayne County, West Virginia, have also scheduled their Trick or Treat for October 30 from 5:30 P.M. to 8 P.M.

Numerous Halloween events have been going this month, and more are scheduled in the region.

  • Every Thursday during this October, Fallsburg Frontier Campground will be playing a kid-friendly Halloween movie. The cost is $5 per person or $20 per carload, and there will also be concessions, including hot dogs, popcorn, pizza and soda. Children 11 years and under must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Wayne County, W.Va., will also host a Trunk R Treat event from 6 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. on Friday, October 22 on the old Fort Gay High School lawn. The event is sponsored by Sons of the States Motorcycle Club.
  • Lawrence County Tourism and Sullivan University will sponsor this year’s Nightmare in the Square event on Saturday, October 30 in Louisa. The event will include food concessions, lemonade sales, a hotdog stand, live music, balloonists, face painting and a costume contest.
  • The cutest costume is for ages 1-6 year olds, scariest costume for ages 7-14 year olds and most original costume for those 15 years old and up.

Meanwhile for Martin County, in Inez, Ky., Main Street Cinema in the Collier Center is showing free Halloween movies every Friday and Saturday throughout the month of October.

The Lawrence County Sheriff Office Impact Program is accepting costume donatations for Halloween. Any donations of gently used costumes can be dropped off at the Lawrence County Sheriff Office in Louisa.

In Johnson County, The 2021 Halloween Spooktacular has been set in Paintsville.

The city of Paintsville beautification volunteers will host a Halloween Spooktacular on Saturday, October 23, at the all new downtown pavilion located at 404 Main Street.

The event will include pumpkin decorating, a costume contest, music, a photo booth, giveaways, refreshments, face painting, and more activities.

Prizes will also be given from the scariest pumpkin, best pumpkin, and most creative pumpkin.
