A Johnson County Sheriff’s deputy was injured in a shooting Tuesday night that also involved the suspect being shot several times, according to the Kentucky State Police.

KSP troopers reportedly were assisting Johnson County deputies on a domestic call that led to a vehicle pursuit. The chase was stopped just inside the Lawrence County line on State Route 201, which is then that the shootout exchange happened

The KSP stated that the shooting exchange incident was reported around 9:15 P.M. The names of both the deputy who was shot, and also of the suspect, have not been released yet.

The suspect fired shots, and the deputy was struck. The deputy’s injuries were said to be non-life-threatening, and that he was taken to Pikeville Medical Center for medical treatment.

The male suspect was also shot several times and was taken to Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa. The shooting suspect’s condition was unknown as of yet.

State Route 201 was expected to remain closed at the scene of the shooting for several hours according to law enforcement officials at the scene, and that drivers in the area were asked to use alternate routes.

Those police agencies who responded to and were investigating at the scene of the officer involved shooting included troopers from the Kentucky State Police Post 9 in Pikeville, Ky. and Post 14 in Ashland, Ky., the Johnson County Sheriff Department, and the Lawrence County Sheriff Department.

The Levisa Lazer will be keeping abreast of this story, and will be providing more information when it becomes available, as more details about the police shootout is expected to be released by the Kentucky State Police and the Johnson County Sheriff Department sometime later today.
