On behalf of the Lawrence County Fair Board, we’d like to thank every student who helped build these outhouses, which will be part of the outhouse race during this year’s Lawrence County Kentucky Fair and Rodeo.
The Lawrence County Fair Board had requested that Ms. Brown’s arts students and Mr. Bradshaw’s carpentry students build and design the outhouses seen in the top photo. Ms. Sarah Brown mentioned how exciting it was for these children to be able to paint these outhouses, and went on to explain, “They’ve spent so much of this last year separated from one other, even to a certain degree in the classroom.” Masked up, socially isolated, and working discreetly on their projects has been their new normal this school year. However, being outside and working together on a joint project has really helped them come out of it. They’ve been talking, laughing, having an enjoyable time, and really bonding with their classmates”.
Ms. Sarah Brown said, “it’s been a huge stride toward actual normalcy and has been wonderful for my spirit, and I’m sure it’s been wonderful for them as well.”
Mr. Charlie Bradshaw stated regarding his students, “In my class, my students were tasked with the duty of creating Racing Outhouses for the Lawrence County, Kentucky Fair.” To perform this objective, students would have had to use all of their prior knowledge and talents. This initiative has helped them since they have gotten real-world experience by having to solve problems themselves. They also planned, calculated the materials, and built them. This has been a fantastic experience that has given these students confidence and a sense of accomplishment for a job well done”. Mr. Charlie Bradshaw concluded by adding, “I’d want to thank the Lawrence County Fair Board for providing this chance to my kids, and I hope to partner with them in the future.”
Vice President of the Lawrence County Fair Board, James Allen Pauley-Barker, feels that we did give an opportunity for Lawrence County students to engage in community service, which is crucial for building educated, motivated, and competitive kids in our community. Pauley-Barker also stated that he agreed with both teachers that civic service projects will boost student morale and make the school more engaging.
Pauley-Barker concluded by thanking both the teachers, administrative staff, and all of the students for their active participation in the 2021 Outhouse Racing Fair initiative.
Lawrence County Fair Board President Rick Blackburn believes that this school project has been wonderful for these students to engage in, and he is incredibly impressed with how the students have assisted in building these outhouses for this year’s Lawrence County Fair.
Rick Blackburn went on to remark that he’d like to thank Mr. Bradshaw and his students for providing us with this opportunity. We’d also want to thank Ms. Brown’s art students for doing an outstanding job painting and creating themes for these outhouses.
According to Blackburn, when the fair board first learned about the outhouse races, “we weren’t sure how to make this a reality for this year’s fair.” That being mentioned, the picture provided demonstrates that these students truly stepped up and made this a new reality for our 2021 fair”. Blackburn concluded by adding, “We hope that the residents of Lawrence County will come out and join us in this event, as well as all of the other events listed on our website, https://www.lawrencecountyfairlouisaky.com/.” cause there’s plenty for families to do at this year’s fair. Blackburn said, “It is our hope that the residents of Lawrence County and other neighboring counties would come out and join us at this year’s new location for the fair, which is located up near the Pine Hill Cemetery; providing the new address is 545 Pine Hill Rd, Louisa, KY 41230.”
Also, The Lawrence County Fair Board would like to conclude by saying that it is time to saddle up folks for this year’s fair that begins on July 29th and ends on July 31st, 2021.
