Louisa, KY:  Mountain Movers Theatre Company (MOMO) continues it’s theatre season with the premiere of Bright Star on Thursday, July 16th. MOMO prides itself with valuing the dignity, diversity, and talents of every individual. They desire to help new generations of Kentuckians discover their destinies and provide a platform to pursue their artistic passions and live their dreams.

Broadway’s “Bright Star,” tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and ’40s. When literary editor Alice Murphy meets a young soldier just home from World War II, he awakens her longing for the child she once lost. Haunted by their unique connection, Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past—and what she finds has the power to transform both of their lives.

“The cast is comprised of professional theatre artists from as far away as Hollywood, CA to as near as Eastern Kentucky.,” says Kim Willard, Artistic Director for the theatre. “You don’t want to miss this engaging bluegrass journey featuring live music from very talented individuals.”

The performances will be at the Garden Theatre in Louisa. The history of the venue goes back to 1921 when the theater first opened on New Year’s Eve. The Garden Theatre was a major part of the community until it closed in 1957. After being used for different local businesses and eventually being abandoned, the theatre was purchased and refurbished in 2019 where MOMO produces children’s theatre, community theatre, and professional theatre productions.

Performances run from July 16-17, 20, 22-24 at 7:30 PM. One matinee show will be available on July 20 at 3:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased at the Garden Theatre’s door or on Eventbrite. Tickets are $15.00 for adults, $12.00 for senior adults, $9.00 for kids. Additionally, a $25.00 family pack is offered for families of 4 or more.

Will someone please correct this ridiculous story about the Garden Theatre??? It DID NOT close in 1957 and it was never used for anything but a theatre until ARC snatched it up a few years ago. Someone please check your sources!

I’m from Lawrence Co. I was born in 1961. My dad would drop me off there on Saturday nights. I don’t know when it closed. But the last time my dad drop me off there was in 1975. I was 14 years old. So go figure. ?

I’d go if the seating wasn’t awful. Everyone is at the same level instead of being angled down like a normal theater
