LAWRENCE COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY, INC RECEIVES $14,000 GRANT FROM PETSMART CHARITIES® TO HELP MORE HOMELESS PETS FIND HOMES IN LAWRENCE COUNTY, KENTUCKY
Ensures every cat and kitten receives immediate vetting for adoption
[Louisa, KY] – [November 24, 2020] – Lawrence County Humane Society, Inc. has received a $14,000 grant from PetSmart Charities to help prepare more shelter pets in Lawrence County, Kentucky for adoption and ensure they are ready to find loving homes. With the help of this grant, the organization will provide the immediate medical preparation needed to get their cats and kittens ready for adoption.
Homeless pet overpopulation in Eastern Kentucky has been a major issue for every community in the region for decades. Added to that situation is the fact that nearly all homeless animals have never been spayed or neutered, thereby adding to the ever-growing over-population. The Lawrence County Humane Society is a mandatory spay/neuter facility which requires that EVERY pet adopted from their organization receives the necessary spay/neuter surgery to help prevent any further unwanted litters should this animal escape from their home or find themselves lost or stolen.
“This generous grant will enable the Lawrence County Humane Society and OPEN ARMS Animal Shelter to spay and neuter cats and kittens so that through the PetSmart Charities Adoption Partner Program they will be able to be adopted into their forever loving homes,” said Karen Salvaterra, Vice-President of Lawrence County Humane Society.
“The collaborative work of Lawrence County Humane Society continues to provide critical care to homeless cats and kittens, giving them the best chance at finding loving homes,” said Heidi Fulcher, associate relationship manager at PetSmart Charities. “These efforts will help shorten the shelter stay of these pets while reducing the homeless pet population throughout Lawrence county.”
Since 1994, through its partnership with nearly 4,000 humane societies, SPCAs and pet rescues across North America, PetSmart Charities has helped more than 9.5 million pets to find loving homes via its in-store adoption program in over 1,650 PetSmart® stores. The leading funder of animal welfare has also donated nearly $430 million to positively impact communities, to help preserve families, to improve access to veterinary care and to connect people and pets through initiatives like this with Lawrence County Humane Society, Inc.

About LAWRENCE COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY, INC
The Lawrence County Humane Society was incorporated in 1990 by a small group of people who were concerned about the ever-growing stray animal population in their community. We work closely with the animal control officers from both Lawrence and Magoffin counties to pick up stray animals, enforce county ordinances, and address cruelty to animal complaints. We strive to educate all age groups to promote humane attitudes and good treatment for all animals. And we work to reduce the over breeding of dogs and cats through public education programs and spay/neuter assistance programs.
