ASHLAND, Ky., December 14, 2020– Kentucky Power recently awarded a $13,835 gift to White House Clinics. The grant from the American Electric Power (AEP) Foundation and Kentucky Power will support the White House Clinics’ emergency food program.
White House Clinics is a federally qualified non-profit health care center that offers medical, dental, behavioral health, pharmacy and primary care services. Additionally, White House Clinics has an Enabling Services department that serves to help its patients overcome social and economic barriers they may experience as they work to improve their health. The emergency food program is a component of White House Clinics’ Enabling Services department. White House Clinics serves patients from a large portion of southeast Kentucky.
“As a community health center, White House Clinics sees our mission as much more than the clinical care we provide,” Stephanie Moore, White House Clinics chief executive officer said. “This funding from American Electric Power Foundation provides us the opportunity to grow an important piece of our work addressing one of the most important social determinants of health – food security. White House Clinics particularly appreciates having a stable source of funding for this program during these challenging times and we are grateful for American Electric Power Foundation’s understanding of the impact this work can have on the health of the communities we serve.”

The American Electric Power Foundation is funded by AEP and its utility operating companies, including Kentucky Power. The Foundation focuses on improving lives through education in science, technology, engineering, math and the environment and by meeting basic needs for emergency shelter, affordable housing and the elimination of hunger.
Kentucky Power, with headquarters in Ashland, provides electric service to approximately 165,000 customers in 20 eastern Kentucky counties, including Boyd, Breathitt, Carter, Clay, Elliott, Floyd, Greenup, Johnson, Knott, Lawrence, Leslie, Letcher, Lewis, Magoffin, Martin, Morgan, Owsley, Perry, Pike and Rowan. Kentucky Power is an operating company in the AEP system, one of the largest electric utilities in the United States, delivering electricity and custom energy solutions to 5.4 million regulated customers in 11 states. AEP also owns the nation’s largest electricity transmission system. AEP’s headquarters are in Columbus, Ohio.
Once again all this is, is money they HAVE to give away. It’s either that or give the ratepayers (customers) a refund. And that does not look good in the public service commissions eyes although they know this goes on. Trust me , I know. If every customer uses the same amount of electricity (which they don’t. big business uses more) it would be around a $12.00 refund. It’s all based on your usage.

Thanks for nothing AEP. They are the biggest ripoff experts in this state. They have people on the payroll just to convince you they are doing something for humanity. Have they convinced you that closing down half the Lawrence County power plant is a great thing? They pat you on the back then raise your bill every chance they get. AEP makes me sick. Stop gouging the working class.
