With profound sadness we announce the passing of Mary Francis (Kitts) Thompson, 76, of Greenup, KY. Mary went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at her home with family by her side.
Mrs. Thompson was born February 5, 1944 in Wayne County, West Virginia to the late Sid and Hattie (Watts) Ktts. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William Darrell Thompson in 2008, her infant daughter Angel, and siblings Launa, Sue, Kathryn, Perry Taylor “P.T.”, and Frank.
She is survived by two sons William D. Thompson and wife Stephanie of Chesapeake, VA and Richard D. Thompson and wife Becky of Christiansburg, VA; one daughter Karen Lee Morningstar and husband Melvin of Catlettsburg, KY; six grandchildren Tasha Marie Opell, Caitlin Marie Thompson, Heather Anne Dolly, Morgan Brittany Thompson, Meghan Elizabeth Brandon, Jonathon Darrell Opell; six great grandchildren Carter, Caden, Aislyn, Addy, Kinley, and Evie; and siblings Anna, Elwood, C.B., and Jackie.
Affectionately known as “Granny”, Mary was loved by everyone that knew her. She fostered many children through the years. She loved having a house full and loved to feed you when you came to visit. She was a member of the AMVETS and the VFW.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Community Hospice.
Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday, December 14, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Damron Thompson Cemetery in Fort Gay with Pastor Jason Porter officiating. The procession will leave the funeral home at Noon.
Young Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Mrs. Thompson and her family.
Mary was a beautiful soul. I’m glad our paths crossed in life. She is going to be missed by those who knew her. She took me under her wing like the mothering angel she was. Fly high Mary into the hands of your eternal Lord.
