Kentucky Joins Other States Launching Get Covered 2021

Declaration urges Kentuckians to mask up and get health coverage

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Dec. 10, 2020) – Kentucky is joining a broad coalition of states – plus consumer and health care groups and health care providers – in the launch of Get Covered 2021. This is a national effort to encourage mask wearing and substantially increase the number of people with health coverage.

Today, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, as well as the governors of 13 other states and the mayor of the District of Columbia, are declaring Dec. 10 Get Covered America Day, a day of awareness and action about COVID-19 safety and getting enrolled in health coverage.

“Health care is a basic human right,” says Gov. Beshear. “It’s our job to work quickly and diligently to get health coverage for as many Kentuckians as possible. With COVID-19 negatively impacting every state, we also need more people wearing masks because when you mask up, you help protect yourself and those around you, which slows the spread of this devastating virus.”

In Kentucky, 239,000 residents are currently uninsured, but more than half – 175,000 – qualify for financial help to pay for health coverage or free coverage through Medicaid.

The newly launched kynect website – kynect.ky.gov – is a one-stop portal for finding health coverage and other benefits for Kentuckians. The website is run by the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS). Cabinet Secretary Eric Friedlander says kynectors around the state are holding virtual enrollment events to help the uninsured find affordable or no cost-coverage. kynectors are front-line staff who work directly with Kentuckians in need.

“We want everyone who qualifies for financial assistance for a Qualified Health Plan or Medicaid to get it,” says Secretary Friedlander. “Dealing with a devastating illness is bad enough, but it shouldn’t ruin a family financially. Having health coverage and getting treated early is good for everyone in our entire state.”

The public is being asked to help spread awareness of Get Covered America Dayby posting photos on social media of themselves wearing masks along with messages encouraging others to mask up. Recommended hashtags are #getcoveredkentucky, #getcoveredamerica and #getcovered2021.

“This is a way to show you care about yourself, your family, your friends and your community,” says CHFS Deputy Secretary Carrie Banahan, who is serving as co-chair of the national Get Covered America Day effort. “We all know someone whose life has been changed because of the lifesaving care they received. It could be your mother, grandfather, daughter or best friend. So, right now, as we face the challenges of COVID, let us also work to make sure everyone has the same access to care that is provided by having insurance coverage.”

*In addition to Kentucky (and D.C), here are the other states declaring Dec. 10 Get Covered America Day:

·         California
·         Colorado
·         Connecticut
·         Maine
·         Maryland
·         Massachusetts
·         Minnesota
·         Nevada
·         New Jersey
·         Oregon
·         Rhode Island
·         Vermont
·         Washington

How is Biden’s plan different? Dr. Fauci will be the head guy. Mask mandates, social distance, and shutdowns. So looks to me the result would have been about the same as Trump with the virus. How can you have the same swamp running the show and expect different results?

well first he will lead by setting a good example
not telling his followers it’s a democrat hoax, this will all go away when the weather warms up, we are rounding the corner, liberate your state, holding super spreader rally’s, telling people to inject light in there bodies, drink bleach i am sure there is a lot more. if he had just took this more serious instead of playing it down a lot of lives would have been saved.
but we will never know how things would of turned out because President Elect Biden was not the president this is all of Trump’s doing. now after jan. 20th then it’s up to President Biden to get this under control can’t do no worse.

How did trump cause the flu?? For my understanding it came from CHINA!! It’s the China virus!! It’s not his fault. And you will see Biden isn’t gonna do anything ether. They’ve already got the vaccine so …

    You must be a democratic!

i didn’t say your Dear Leader caused the Trump Flu but the way he has handled it especially after memorial day he owns it
over 300,000 dead Americans and it’s worse today than back in the spring
we will not know how President Elect Biden will handle it until January 20 2021
just remember how you and the other’s cried and blame Obama and Hillary over the 4 killed in Benghazi

      • Hysteria says:

Just imagine what would’ve happened if any president of our country had come out with dire and bleak warnings about how bad this China virus is and how it is going to kill a lot of people. If a president had pushed this message to the American people, it would’ve caused mass panic and more lives would be lost. People in the US can’t handle such statements bluntly like that and it would’ve caused people to commit suicide as opposed to contracting the “deadly” China virus. Come on people, hind sight is 2020!!!

        • KAG says:

Well let’s not give out any more tornado or how about hurricane warnings any more
          You just can’t fix stupid
