ELDERLY JOHNSON COUNTY MAN ARRESTED AFTER FIRING GUN AT NEIGHBORING FAMILY

WEEKEND INCIDENT IN FLAT GAP AREA CAME CLOSE TO GOING BAD AS SITUATION ERUPTED OVER ALLEGED SPOOKING OF LIVESTOCK

NOVEMBER 30, 2020 – written by WADE QUEEN

SAMUEL MCCOY, 71, OF FLAT GAP, GOT JAILED SATURDAY EVENING, AFTER FIRING GUN AT HIS NEIGHBORS OVER DISPUTE OVER AN ANIMAL GETTING SPOOKED.

A Johnson County senior citizen in major legal trouble, after he got jailed mid-Thanksgiving weekend after he pointed a gun and opened fire with the gun at his neighbors due to what was essentially a minor spat.

According to a press release of the arrest citation report, on early Saturday evening, November 28, the Johnson County Sheriff Department received a call about shots fired at a family in the Flat Gap area.

When Johnson County Sheriff Department deputy Jeffrey Castle made contact with the Flat Gap family, who said their daughter and a friend were riding side-by-side ATV on their property, when they said their neighbor, Samuel McCoy, 71, pointed a gun at them, saying they were scaring his horse. The girl’s parents then went to find out what was going on, and when they came near Sameul McCoy’s residence, that is when they claimed he allegedly fired his gun at their truck.

When deputy Castle went to Samuel McCoys’s home to investigate and when deputy Castle made contact began speaking to Mr. McCoy, that is when he allegedly told deputy Castle that he could shoot anyone who came on his property, including deputy Castle, and then allegedly said he would kill a bunch of people and save the last bullet for himself.

After telling Mr. McCoy he was under arrest, and after a brief struggle with Samel McCoy who tried to walk away and to pull away from being placed in handcuffs, deputy Jeffrey Castle took Samuel McCoy into custody, and he was charged with:

  • TERRORISTIC THREATENING,2ND DEGREE,
  • RESISTING ARREST,
  • MENACING,
  • WANTON ENDANGERMENT-1ST DEGREE.

Samel McCoy was transported to and was lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville; where he still remains jailed, with his bond set at $10,025.

Bad Grandpa Indeed! It would seem he lives in a different reality, perhaps his family should tie him on a chain in the back yard! 🙂

There is always two sides to every story Thank you!!! Please try to understand that he has children too and they have had to see this family for years torment him over property that they have tried to steal from him. They have caused him to have a mental breakdown..

Charles you don’t now what you are talking about. I am his son and this story is bullshit, I was there to whiteness it and we called 911 first for help but instead they went to wealthy neighbors first and took there word over ours. I even have pics of him taunting my dad but the law mentioned nothing on our behalf. So before you know both sides of the story don’t be slandering someone’s loved one!!!!!!!

Well Sammie, you do have a point. I went by the story as it was told, and there are at least two sides to ever story. If your dad is innocent I hope the court finds him so. I’m not an unreasonable man, but IF your dad did shoot at kids…that’s a bit much. IF he said he could shoot anyone trespassing on his property, HE IS WRONG.

It’s just so wrong the way the law Are handling it by going to them and trusting there story when we are the one who called 911 first for help. They never even wrote down my statement and I even have pics!!!! Just goes to show you there is favoritism for certain people in Johnson county. After 10 years of bullying my dad I guess they finally got what they wanted. His land is in the center of them and they want it.
