ACCELERATION: COVID-19 CASE AND DEATH NUMBERS STEADILY RISING & WORSENING ACROSS KENTUCKY

IN FIRST FIVE MONTHS & THREE-QUARTER MONTHS, STARTING WITH THE FIRST CONFIRMED CASE IN KENTUCKY ON MARCH 6 AND ENDING AUGUST 31, THERE WERE 48,032 CONFIRMED COVID-19 CORONAVIRUS CASES & 930 DEATHS; SINCE SEPTEMBER 1 TO OCTOBER 6 (5 WEEKS), THERE HAVE BEEN 29,709 NEW COVID-19 CASES, & 325 NEW COVID-19 DEATHS IN KENTUCKY.

OCTOBER 7, 2020 – written by WADE QUEEN

At least 7 new coronavirus deaths and 1,054 new cases were reported in Kentucky by Tuesday evening, October 6. Over the past week, there have been an average of 831 cases per day, an increase of 25 percent from the average two weeks earlier.

As of Wednesday morning, there have been at least 77,741 cases and 1,255 deaths in Kentucky since the beginning of the pandemic.

Lawrence Co. Schools Supt. Fletcher says school system has had only one positive case

“…Based on the state incidence map (at 10:39 AM today), Lawrence County is in the orange with an incidence rating of 11.2.  (For transparency, the state map does lag about 2 days.)  In order for the county to move into the “red,” we would have to be at an index of 25 or greater. Please keep in mind, the incidence rate is based on the positives in the entire county, regardless of age.

Currently, based on our work with the health department, we have one positive case within our student/staff population.  Every positive case (and quarantine for that matter) is moved immediately to Option 2:  All IN @ Home until the isolation/quarantine period has ended.  So far, I have been very pleased with the hard work that ALL our staff members are doing to educate, to feed, to transport, and to sanitize every day.

As for a predication, I can give you the numbers.  In order for Lawrence County to enter the “red” category, we have to average 4 positive cases per day for 7 consecutive days based on our population of 15,317.”

25 states report rise in cases

Kentucky and New York are among the 25 states reporting more new cases than the previous week.

Alaska and Montana reported record-high daily case counts this week. In Ohio, the governor said new cases are “trending upward.”

At least a dozen states reported more than 1,000 new cases Monday. Four of them — California, North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas — had more than 2,000 infections.

Across the US, only three states report a decline in cases — Hawaii, Iowa and South Carolina.

“Instead of going into the fall and the winter on a sharp decline down to a low baseline, we’re actually going into the fall and the winter with some parts of the country ticking up, which will ultimately lead to not only more infections, but more hospitalizations and then community spread, which will ultimately lead to morbidity and mortality,” Dr. Anthony Fauci told students at American University this week.

Experts have warned the rise in cases will be followed by an uptick in hospitalizations and deaths. Researchers with the University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation project the US could see more than 2,900 deaths each day by January. And in total, more than 360,000 Americans could be killed by the virus by the new year.

So far, more than 7.5 million infections have been reported — more than any other country. More than 210,900 Americans have died, according to Johns Hopkins University.

At first I believed this was likely a passing thing, I was wrong. There are those that blame this on President Trump, we will likely hear from one before this is posted? The blame for this lay’s on China, and it’s not going away. What we do from here, I don’t claim to know? I live in Greene County TN, and we’ve seen about 800 cases (until the state started a new counting system), Washington County, which borders us has had around 2000 cases, deaths are in the hundreds. I hope for a vaccine, and that will be the only thing that will save the world. They appear to have given the President something that worked really well. KY and TN both started in person classes at school, which is about the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen! TN is already closing the schools they opened. KY will soon follow suit…I hope? Sports is over folks, whether you like it or not! It’s stupid to go to a damn ball game in the middle of a pandemic anyway, and yes I know the President is all in on that. Perhaps someday we will see ‘normal’ again, but it won’t be today, unless a miracle happens. Until something good happens, if it does; wear the damn masks and don’t go anywhere you don’t need to, (that’s how I live my life, and it sucks). Thank you Mark for reporting this important issue, I hope the weak minded can comprehend?

And not to mention 4 more cases today. If these businesses around here are doing everything they say they are doing I don’t know why LC has so many cases. I don’t know what to think about it.
