LC HEAD COACH ALAN SHORT’S TEAM WILL HAVE TO WAIT 14 MORE DAYS BEFORE BEGINNING PRACTICE.

Louisa, Ky — Disappointing news out of Lawrence Co. after the Bulldogs were given clearance from Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear to go ahead with practice, the football team will not be allowed to practice until September 8th which puts their opening night game with Russell on the 11th in serious jeopardy.

From Lawrence Co Schools Superintendent: Dr. Robbie L. Fletcher

August 25, 2020

Dear Lawrence County Family,

It is our goal to be transparent with our community, at all times. We will provide you with as much information as we can so you can make the best decisions for you and your family. We want all our students—your children—to be in the safest environment that we can provide.

With this in mind, we have been informed that one of our Lawrence County High School staff members tested positive for COVID19 this morning using a 15-minute rapid test.

Furthermore, this person is a member of our football coaching staff. I have talked with our local health department officials and the regional epidemiologist that serves the eastern part of our Commonwealth. I have provided these health officials with all the information that I have been provided. Here are the decisions based on discussions with our health officials and other information for our community:

• High School Football practice is suspended for 14 days. At this time, high school football practice may resume on Tuesday, September 8th.
• Based on the current information, our high school football student-athletes are at a low to minimal risk, but for transparency, there is a risk. It is recommended that our parents monitor their students for any symptoms. If symptoms become evident, it is recommended that the parent takes their student for testing. Of course, COVID testing is a parent decision, not the decision of the district administration.
• All other sports may proceed with practice.
• This person was NOT involved in any back-to-school events (such as recent drive-in registrations, etc.) held by our schools.
Again, we will provide our community with the information that we can. More importantly, I will give you the recommendations that I receive from health officials.
Thank you for your understanding and thank you for being…
All In,

Robbie L. Fletcher, EdD

No way they can play a season if one person shuts down the whole show for 14 days. Not going to happen in KY as well as school

I don’t normally comment on sports, but news seems frozen at the moment! I would like to know what the hell is on someone’s mind that thinks any sport holds an ounce of importance in this day and age? The above statement proves to me THAT PEOPLE DON’T HAVE A MIND! I could give a damn less about dawgs or cats for that matter, people are dying!!! Do you lame brains want to kill you’re children and yourselves to watch a stupid ball game? Schools aren’t open, businesses are closed, some for good, jobs are lost, the world economy is in freefall and you want sports?
