LAWRENCE COUNTY TEENAGER ARRESTED IN MAJOR METH BUST BY WAYNE COUNTY CO. DEU

FEMALE SUSPECT ROLE WAS ACTING AS GO BETWEEN FROM FEMALE DEALER TO DISTRIBUTE FOR SELLING IN THE FORT GAY AREA

KEYARA BOWEN

Sheriff Rick Thompson stated that a drug suspect was arrested last night on felony warrants. Keyarah Bowen, of Lawrence County KY, is charged with Conspiracy to Distribute 5 to 50 Grams of Methamphetamine, Possession with Intent to Deliver, and Pseudoephedrine Altered.

Christy Caudill, of Fort Gay, was also arrested in July for the same charges in this investigation. Keyarah concealed a large quantity of Methamphetamine on her person to aid Christy Caudill in transporting the Methamphetamine to the Fort Gay area for distribution.

The warrants stemmed from an investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff Drug Enforcement Unit in the Fort Gay area. The Wayne County Sheriff Drug Enforcement Unit has received numerous tips that Christy Caudill was distributing Methamphetamine.

The Kenova Police Department arrested Keyarah for the felony warrants after a traffic stop.

5 to 50 grams for distribution?
I don’t get it. Did she have 5 grams or did she have 50?
If she had as much as 50 grams, then how did they come to the conclusion that she was going to distribute as little as 5 grams of it because after all it does say she was charged with conspiracy to distribute 5 to 50 grams.
Maybe I’m not up on today’s drug lingo and whatnot, but whatever the case I’m confused as to why they are saying 5 to 50 grams.

Chances are that those are predefined ranges in the law. If she had 5.01 grams or 49.99 she would be charged with the same charge. These type of laws are often written this way. The quantities are grouped together in various stages, just like theft for instance, “Theft by unlawful taking more than $500, but less than $10,000.”

It means she had somewhere in between 5 to 50 grams. The definition of the felony charge means that if someone has the amount that falls between 5 to 50, then it’s considered a felony.

5 grams is a distribution amount alone. state charge= any person who willfully conspires with one or more persons to manufacture, deliver or possess with intent to manufacture or deliver not less than five but fewer than fifty grams of methamphetamine , if one or more of such persons does any act to effect the object of the conspiracy, is guilty of a felony and, upon conviction thereof, shall be imprisoned in a state correctional facility for a determinate sentence of not less than two nor more than twenty years.
