Lawrence County Judge Executive Phillip Carter signs a Declaration that declares the week of August 26, 2020, as School Heroes Week, while District 3 magistrate David Pinson looks on.

Carter made a proclamation that AUGUST 24-26  IS SCHOOL HEROES WEEK  in Lawrence County during Tuesday morning’s Fiscal Court meeting. School Hero’s Week will be celebrated across the county by students, parents, educators, schools and organizations, to raise awareness of the dedication and the commitment that Lawrence County educator’s provide to students across the county.

Lawrence County Superintendent of Schools, Robert Fletcher, was in attendance at today’s Fiscal Court meeting. He informed council members that when the Board of Education begins passing out food for Lawrence County students and families, the meals will remain within the county.

“We will not venture outside county lines like it did in the spring,” Fletcher said.

He did say however, that BOE members will be searching diligently to find financial support to help those students and families that are outside county limits and students who are enrolled in local schools but are not part of the Lawrence County School system.

There were 228,000 meals served to Lawrence County students and families during the early stages of COVID-19. These meals were given in an attempt to ease the financial strain for families and to make sure that students were getting meals during the pandemic.

CARTER WARNS OF BUDGET, PAYROLL CUTS IN NEAR FUTURE

“Now for the bad news”, Judge Executive Phillip Carter said, while addressing council members during Tuesday meeting.

Carter informed council members that all county funds have been cut. He went on to say that there are no road funds and that there is no severance pay. He encouraged office holders to search within their offices and begin making cuts, saying that he expects cuts in every county office.

Magistrates Rick Blackburn and Mouse Halbert practice social distancing at the meeting Tuesday morning.

In other news:

The Lawrence County Judge Executive’s Office is offering a $500.00 reward to any individual that may have information or leads regarding a county owned asphalt roller that was vandalized after Lawrence County Road Crew left it in the Mill Creek area near the mouth of Pigeon Roost after doing road repairs in that area. If you have any information that may be important in the prosecution of these vandals, please call 638-4102.
Patrick Flannery, who is running for State Representative, was also in attendance during today’s Fiscal Court meeting. Mr. Flannery did not address any issues during the meeting.

Funny thing is the whole fiscal court is republican as is most of the elected officials. So not the Democrats this time.

Seems like more of the same. The first time Phil was in he blew through every dime the fiscal court had. It’s just history repeating itself.

Everything is not about politics. Many businesses have been closed or partially closed due to the virus. This means less taxes collected overall, which means less money for the county.
Want more money for the county? Support local businesses and help them remain open.

i don’t believe businesses charge county taxes on anything you buy i have never seen anything on any of my receipts now on there property taxes there is a county tax they are charge but it is the assessed value even if they are closed
now if the states collect less sales tax then more than likely less money for the counties

A good place to start would be in the judge’s office, if Phil has to have a deputy judge to do his job for him he needs to resign. No other administration has had to have a deputy since he did the last time he was elected, totally incompetent.

Flush the (censored), November 3rd. Riden with Biden

    • Charles says:

The position doesn’t exist in the metro governments of Louisville and Lexington. Of the remaining 118 counties, there are deputy positions authorized in at least 63 of them. So you are wrong, a typical bumblecrat problem. If you are going to ride with Biden…don’t get lost!
