Louisa Rotary has weekly meeting VIA ZOOM

On Thursday, August 7, 2020, the Louisa Rotary Club held their weekly meeting via Zoom.  The meeting was called to order by rotary president Mike Shapaka.  Prayer was led by Tommy Taylor.  Mike then asked for any birthdays or anniversaries that should be announced but there were none.

Member Chris Jobe said there were no updates with the clerk’s office other than preparing for election.  Caleb Perry (Perry Chiropractic) said he is now open a few days a week.  Shapaka proposed buying a few grills for cooking events. Member Greg Kiser suggested members just use their own grills for the cooking events and hold off on purchasing any new grills and there was no further discussion.

Guest speaker was Dr. Robbie Fletcher, superintendent of Lawrence County schools. He provided the members with the latest updates with the contracts that had just been sent out.

Dr. Fletcher went over all three options and expectations from teachers, parents, and students for the upcoming school year.  While he still said there is a lot to figure out with delivering meals to the kids who aren’t doing the in-person option, working on WIFI connectivity spots for those who don’t have WIFI capabilities, to figuring out paperless ticket options for athletic events if they get to have sporting events.

“I have a good team and central office staff and appreciate all their hard work, Fletcher said. He also said that this is his seventh year as superintendent and superintendents talk more now than ever before.  Things will be very different he said and could still change based on the Governor’s recommendations.”

The meeting was then adjourned.
