During the Fiscal meeting Judge Phillip Carter touched base on a few other issues including updating on the asphalt funds. Judge Carter stated the county has been laying asphalt with the discretionary

funds that were appropriated late last fall. The county has laid over 5,000 tons of asphalt and has about 5,000 more tons to lay.

It was also explained that when the county receives discretionary funds that doesn’t mean the county receives the money upfront but instead the county has to pay for everything first, asphalt, labor and other expenses included then the county applies for reimbursement after the work is completed and the bills are all paid.

He said usually the money is received from the state within a few weeks.  This is the process for 90% of the grants and funds the county receives for the project.

Judge Carter also explained the county being behind on the right of way mowing due to Covid-19 and a couple of mowers being down due to repairs.  Now the mowers are cutting from daylight to dark and even on weekends to take care of the weeds.
