Louisa, Ky — After a three month layoff caused by COVID 19 the Lawrence Co. football team has put in some good work the last three weeks under the direction of Head Coach Alan Short.

The team is working in pods of 10 three days per week conditioning and lifting weights with around 40-45 players participating and Coach Short thinks the layoff has been beneficial for the players.

Official practice is fast approaching and supposed to begin two weeks from today on Wednesday July 15th but that is up in the air as of right now.

#2 Baden Gillispie is primed and ready for his final season under center for the Bulldogs.
#4 Danny Hall is set to have a breakout senior season for the Dawgs.

COACH’S COMMENTS

“… We are hopeful that we get to have a football season but we don’t know what that will entail right now everything is up in the air. The kids have been home for over three weeks and they are excited to get back to work but there is some uncertainty at this time we will continue to wait for guidance from the KHSAA and our own school district to see what we can and can’t do.”

“… Right now we have them broken down by classes with 10 in each pod but we have some strong leadership from the incoming seniors, very hungry group who have done the right things and are excited to get back to work and improve each day.”

“… We have around 45 kids in the summertime and that is excellent, plus that’s with kids working summer jobs or on vacation so we are thrilled with those numbers. We think we will have over 60 kids when and if the season rolls around. The kids have been great through the whole process.”

“… It’s no secret if you watched us last year we played a lot of younger guys and didn’t necessarily look like a varsity football team out there. But with time comes maturity and a lot of these kids have grown and have done work on their own with pushups and sit ups during this break. We will go for three weeks and then take a couple weeks off and hopefully get going for real on July 15th.”
