ANNOUNCEMENT WAS MADE LATE FRIDAY EVENING ABOUT THE DISCOVERY OF THE CORONA VIRUS PRESENCE IN A LOCAL COUNTY RESIDENT

MARCH 27, 2020 –  written by WADE QUEEN

Officials in Lawrence County, Kentucky have confirmed the county’s first case of the COVID-19 corona virus.

The announcement was made just after 7 P.M. Friday evening by Debbie Miller, who is the Public Health Director of the Lawrence County Health Department.

Ms. Miller said the risk to the public in the county is low at this time.

Local officials say they are working to contact anyone the patient may have come into contact with.

No other information about the case has been released at this time about first the corona virus patient in Lawrence County.

Keep checking back with The Levisa Lazer for more  information as soon as it becomes available.

Here is Ms. Miller’s announcement:

“…County Judge Executive, Phillip Carter, {Louisa} Mayor Harold Slone and Public Health Director Debbie Miller announce Lawrence County’s first case of COVID-19 (2019 novel coronavirus).

While the risk to the general public is low, health officials are working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Kentucky Department for Public Health (KDPH) to identify and speak with all those who may have come in close contact with the infected person. These individuals will be monitored for fever and respiratory symptoms.

Additional details about the person cannot be provided because of medical (HIPAA) privacy laws.

The health department offered these tips to prevent the spread of COVID-19:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.

The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person:

  • Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet).
  • Via respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
  • These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.

Senior adults and those with chronic health conditions are at higher risk for complications of COVID-19. The CDC recommends the following for people over the age of 60 and anyone with heart, lung or kidney disease, cancer or diabetes:

  • Stay at home as much as possible.
  • Make sure you have access to medications and supplies in case you are advised to stay home.
  • When you go out in public, keep away from others who are sick, limit close contact and wash your hands often.
  • Avoid crowds.

Additional information will be found on our social media account on Facebook, Lawrence County Health Department. For updated information on COVID-19 in Kentucky, please visit kycovid19.ky.gov.

A 30 year old man confirmed to have the virus was told to self quarantine, then Sunday decided to go shopping in lousia Walmart….now more people will most likely get it….then brags about it on his Facebook…check for yourself….enough isn’t being done to just tell some to stay home, they don’t listen, endangering others

If someone knowingly went to Walmart with the COVID-19 virus you should tell us who they are, as well as local law enforcement.

Since you’re probably making this up yourself, as some

If they have it on their fb they dont care for people to know they have it , so u should tell who it is so others can avoid the person who has it
