On Monday, March 16, 2020 the Lawrence County Public Library held a special board meeting. The meeting was called to order by John Osborne. The items on the agenda were Pandemic Procedures and Public Comments.
Library Director Carlie Pelfrey, stated that they had received an email from the State Commissioners office to close all Libraries. She stated that the Library will be closed, with the school system’s timeline.
Plans are to re-open to the public Monday April 6, 2020.
Library administration Wii continue to monitor the situation and may adjust this schedule, at a later date. Some libraries will be having staff to still come in. Carlie handed out pamphlets on Pandemic Procedures.
They recommended that the library workers can work from home. The KDLA will be having free online classes, and the employees who aren’t certified could take those classes. The library will provide services remotely. They were discussing having classes online via Facebook, on cooking classes, maybe art classes for the children to do. They will be checking into this and keeping the community updated on their Facebook site.
The library will be extending due dates on overdue materials and urges residents to keep overdue material which they have checked out at home during this time, instead of using the Dropbox.
