Julia Wray (Chapman) Smith,74, formerly of Louisa

Julia departed this life on February 20th at Riverside Hospital in Desert Springs, CA. Formally of Louisa, KY, left many friends behind to remember the ‘good times.’ She trained to be a medical photographer before she became a free-lance photographer, selling her art to various customers. She married late in life but loved her husband deeply until his untimely passing. She has no family left except several distant cousins. Julia was in the Louisa High School class of 1963 and was very well-known and active in school functions. She served as a majorette and drum major in the LHS band and was Miss Scarlack in her senior year. She was on the Scarlack staff as assistant editor, was a delegate to Girl’s State, and played clarinet in the concert band. During her late years she accepted Christ as her Savior, but after the loss of her husband, she suffered with health issues that finally led to her passing. We shall miss her wit and fun-loving spirit. We wish her sweet rest in the life after.

I remember when Julia was born to Shirley Wray Chapman and George Edward Chapman. Mother and l lived in apartment 7 of the Louisa Inn, and Shirley in apt 1. What a joy it was for this 8 year old girl to have a baby with which to play. Big brother George was not too happy but he adjusted. Time and age separated us, and I didn’t see Julia again until the funeral of her mother. She did not remember me, but she was as beautiful as ever, very gracious and kind. She will be missed, I am sure.

Julia was a vibrant, fun girl! I have fond memories of her growing up in Louisa! Had her mom in classes at LHS and good times during our band days! So very sorry to hear of her passing! Growing up in Louisa it is like losing a family member as many of my classmates still stay in touch! RIP Dear Friend ! 😇🙏😰
