ANIMAL SHELTER IN LAWRENCE COUNTY RUNS OUT OF MONEY; HUMANE SOCIETY PLEADING FOR HELP WITH MONETARY DONATIONS, SUPPLIES
“It’s like rags to riches for these animals. So my hope is that people will fall in love with Lawrence County Humane Society and help us keep it going, And without them, we can’t keep it going. It won’t last much longer.” according to Lawrence County Humane Society Board Director Karen Salvaterra.
The Open Arms Animal shelter receives a contract payment from the county for taking in animals. The employees say it isn’t enough to cover what’s going out.
“Our monthly income is about $2,200, and that is supposed to cover everything, And it doesn’t. One bill could be four to five hundred dollar vet bill.” said Ms. Salvaterra.
A recent roof repair caused the shelter to take out a loan to cover the expenses. The shelter always takes monetary and cleaning supplies donations all year long.
“Go the store and get an extra bag of trash bags, put an extra bottle of Clorox in your shopping cart. They can donate through our PayPal account, they can write a check. There is different ways that you can help. Not everyone can give a monetary donation. But there are different things you can do that can help the shelter run.” Karen Salvaterra pleaded to the local public.
“We have a very clean facility; the animals get treated very well. I would hate to see it closed because of funding,” Ms. Salvaterra said.

I don’t see why the county don’t help out with this problem!! They have a truck that picks the animals up n takes them there!!! Why not give them all the money they are wasting on the library that didn’t need any added to it or remodeling in the first place!!!
Why don’t the county give them the money they are using on the library!! Which was fine n didn’t need anything the county offers a truck to pick these animals up tho!! So why not help the shelter?!
I am not opposed to assisting the Humane Society. I’d prefer to do this through actually working in the facility. Further, I never see them out in the community trying to get things going. Be proactive, it isn’t enough to just ask for money every time something gets rough. The society needs to be more active in the community.
