Bascom Castle, 88, of Fort Gay, WV went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 2, 2019 at his home.

Bascom was born December 7, 1930 in Fort Gay, WV to the late John J. and Bulah (Daniels) Castle.

Bascom was a Korean War Veteran, having served his country in the Army. He was the best Sharpshooter in his company, scoring 196 out of 200 bullseyes. Bascom attended Fort Gay United Methodist Church. He loved baseball and football, and enjoyed watching the Reds and the Bengals. Bascom was the owner of Sunnyside Auto Repair and was an excellent mechanic. He would help anyone in need.  More than anything, Bascom loved his family.

In addition to his parents, Bascom was preceded in death by his wife Geneva (Blankenship) Castle and his brothers Kelly Castle and John Castle, Jr.

Survivors include his children John (Lou Von) Castle, Patricia (Jerry) Leinen, and Kristi (Tony) Ward; grandchildren Abigail Baker, Daniel Baker, Shawna Kirchman, Tyler Ward, and Ali Ward; 5 great grandchildren; sister Eula “Boots” Caudill; and two cousins he considered brothers Howard Castle and Hubert “JR” Castle.

The family would like to thank Shirley and Kayla from Home Health and Dr. Spencer Harris for the care they provided for Bascom.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Young Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kyle Peake officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Castle Cemetery in Fort Gay.

Friends may visit the family on Friday, December 6, 2019 after 6:00 PM in the Young Funeral Home.

Young Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Mr. Castle and his family.

    So sorry to hear this. I used to buy VW parts from Mr. Castle. He knew the old VW Beetles like the back of his hand. A very kind and intelligent fellow. Big loss to the community.
