Kentucky Power Storm Summary
Kentucky Power is responding to strong winds in excess of 40 mph that moved across eastern Kentucky on Wednesday. The winds have caused trees to fall on power lines, breaking poles and cross arms, bringing down lines, and damaging other electrical facilities.
Outages
Some employees on scheduled vacation for the Thanksgiving holiday were called back to work to assist with restoration efforts. About 250 crews and contractors are working to make repairs as quickly as they can do so safely. About 7,000 customers lost their electrical service Wednesday afternoon. By 5:30 p.m., nearly 60 percent of customers who lost service had their power restored.
Crews will continue to work late into the night to restore power to as many customers as possible. However, some customers in more remote areas may not have service until late Thursday night. Most of the outages are in Knott and Floyd counties.
Other outages are in Boyd, Breathitt, Carter, Greenup, Johnson, Lawrence, Leslie, Letcher, Lewis, Magoffin, Martin, Perry and Pike counties.

Thanksgiving wind storm update
Bad weather often is what causes power outages but some times it’s critters. It was a beaver chomping on this tree not the wind that knocked out power for 153 customers in Millstone in Letcher County. Our crews are on it this Thanksgiving morning.
The Kentucky Power team has been working through the night to restore service where it was safe to do so in the dark. At 6:30 a.m. only about 500 customers remained without power out of 7,000 affected by yesterday’s wind storm. We’ll continue working until all are restored. We hope to have power to the majority of customers by 4 pm. In this Thanksgiving Day, we are thankful for our customers and our dedicated employees.
