Delbert Cyrus, 89, of Fort Gay, WV passed peacefully at his home on Sunday, November 17, 2019 while surrounded by a multitude of family and friends.

Delbert was born on September 9, 1930 to the late Emory and Elizabeth (Webb) Cyrus. He was also preceded in death by the love of his life and wife Billie Jean (Dawson) Cyrus; three brothers Mont Cyrus, Walter Cyrus, and Garland Cyrus; three sisters Mary Robertson, Bertha Watts, and Lilly Mae Lovins; and two precious grandchildren Kristal Kelly and Beverly Pennington.

Those left to cherish his memory include three sons, Taylor Delbert (Sheila) Cyrus, Mack Ray (Pat) Cyrus, and Timothy King (Reba) Cyrus; two daughters Delores (Roger) Pennington and Lottie (Roger) Kelly; sisters Okie Picklesimer, Margaret Meade, Lurline Lovins, and Linda Elliot; two brothers Vince Cyrus and Bud Cyrus; brother in law Cecil Dawson; 24 grandchildren Dalynn Kelly, Cheryl Kelly, Kayla Kelly-Chaudhry, Lillie Wilson, Tamara Slone, Lisa Fraley, Nina Carley, Gabriel Kelly, Twila Ratliff, Billie Pennington, Charlotte Marcum, Carolyn Ross, Wilson Cyrus, Wade Cyrus, Fletcher Peterman, Harry Peterman, Casey Cyrus, Callie Ekers, Caleb Cyrus, Amanda Cyrus, Scott Cyrus, Logan Cyrus, Mariah Cyrus, Zach Cyrus; 34 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grandchildren. Delbert leaves behind a host of special nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Delbert was a faithful member of Oak Grove Church. As a hard worker and provider for his family, he began work for the Erie and Lackawanna Railroad at a young age. After retirement from the railroad, he began work at Inco Alloys in Burnaugh, KY. Once retired from Inco Alloys, he was employed with World Wide Equipment and The Wayne County News.

Delbert loved to travel with his family on his many trips to the mountains of Tucker County, WV. These trips are filled with many fun, loving memories because he always ensured those around him enjoyed life.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Reba, Delbert’s daughter in law and devoted caretaker, whom never left his side throughout his extended illness.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Oak Grove Church in Fort Gay with Brother Mack Ray Cyrus officiating. Burial will follow in the Cyrus Cemetery.

Friends may visit the family on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 after 2:00 PM at the Oak Grove Church.

Young Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Mr. Cyrus and his family.

    Wonderful memories of Delbert and Billie Jean (and all their family). Wonderful people who positively impacted my life. They were parents to every child in Fort Gay. Lives well lived.
