The Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) is run by LTC John Turner Senior Army Instructor and John Runyon High School Classroom Instructor.

The JROTC is designed to teach high school students the value of citizenship, leadership, service to the community, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment, while instilling in them self-esteem, teamwork, and self-discipline. Its focus is reflected in its mission statement, “To motivate young people to be better citizens”.

The Lawrence County High School Raider Team competed at the Belfry High School Raider Competition on Saturday, October 19th.  Team events at the competition are highlighted by, Physical Training Test, One-Rope Bridge, HUMMWV Push, Duffle Bag Relay and Relay Challenge.

The team finished the day with four first place trophies and one second place trophy and as a result, earned the coveted first place overall honor.

Moreover, Cadet Christopher Skaggs walked away with the top Physical Fitness Award by achieving a perfect score of 300 points on the Physical Fitness Test.

LTC John Turner, Senior Army Instructor commented:

“The team has worked extremely hard for this moment.  All the preparation and sacrifices made by each one of these cadets have been inspiring.”

“They competed hard with a determined effort to achieve high standards of excellence and their performance at Belfry is a strong testament to the outstanding cadets that we have in the Bulldog Battalion.  It goes without saying that we are extremely proud of our cadets for everything they do to make our Program a success!”
