On February 14, 2019, 2001 Lawrence County alumni, Shawn Murphy (son of Jodie Short and Richard Preston) was diagnosed with cancer. The last eight months have been crammed with doctors appointments, blood work, tests, scans, second opinions, treatments, etc. Shawn continues to fight and face cancer head on every day. Shawn and his wife, Michelle, have been married for over 8 years. Since then, they have created a beautiful family and home together. They have 3 children; Dakota (13) Louisa Middle School eighth grade student, Zane (9) and Teagan (2 months). Everyone who knows Shawn, knows what a selfless man he is and his willingness to help anyone who needs it.

Michelle Murphy states, “He is a true fighter and his courage and bravery amazes me every single day. Shawn is our hero and we continue to fight with him. Each day we stand up to cancer and face it head on as a family. Cancer has never fought a stronger battle than it has with The Murphy family.”

“Although he is going through the toughest battle he’s ever faced, he is being shown each day by the community that they are here to support him and our family. Shawn and I couldn’t be more proud and thankful to be a part of such a great community.”

Michelle continues to add, “Thanks for all you do and continue to do for The Murphy family. We love each and every one of you!”

###

On Friday, October 25th, friends and family of Shawn will be hosting a benefit event at the Lawrence County High School football parking lot starting at 11am.

There is an opportunity to show your support for everyone. Hillbilly Hibachi will be set up and will also be offering pre-ordered lunch deliveries as well as donating 100% of their profit to the Murphy family. Kona Ice will be participating; donating a percent of their earnings. Along with food, many local businesses have donated miscellaneous items for raffling options (see list below) and as always, all donations are appreciated. All proceeds will go to the Murphy family to help lighten the burden of this life road bump.
