Rotary president Elaine DeSario, left,  and Carolyn Thompson were named as this year’s 2019 Rotarians Award winners based on loyal support and devotion to Rotary.

LOUISA, KY. — Rotary held their regular monthly meeting on Thursday, September 5, 2019. There were several topics of discussion from Septemberfest Rotary Hash, awards presented, to the guest speaker Dr. Perry with his part 1 on Personal Health.

Rotary announced their famous Septemberfest Hash will be for sale in front of the old Courthouse and will start selling at 11:00 am on Friday.

Rotary presented awards based on the founder, Paul P. Harris who founded the club of Rotary International February 23, 1905, so professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and give back to their communities and peace around the world. Rotary International hopes that tomorrow will be a greater day. The Rotarians award was based on loyal supporters and devotion to the Rotary Club. The Paul P. Harris Recognition Awards go to New Rotary President Dr. Elaine DeSario and Carolyn Thompson for outstanding devotion.

Dr. Caleb Perry & Dr. Elaine DeSario

Next we heard from Dr. Caleb Perry. a local chiropractor who gave a presentation on Health and how our bodies are affected through Physical, Mental and Social Skills. He talked about the importance of sleep and that the body needs around 7-9 hours a night to function properly.

Dr. Perry noted some changes that could help such as putting down your phone or tablet at least an hour before bed, there are blue filters built in phones that can trigger your mind into thinking it is daylight making it hard to sleep. Also cutting out caffeine around lunch time, example you drink a caffeinated product the caffeine can keep the body awake for up to 12 hrs.

Also very important is drinking water he recommends to drink half your weight in ounces of water. Example someone weighing 150 lbs. needs 75 ounces of water a day instead of the of 64 ounces of water daily we learned growing up.

Sleep and proper health care all play roles in physical health, mental health and social health. Dr. Perry returns next week for Part 2.
