Eagle Ridge Golf League News

Tuesday’s Scores, Other Scores, League Title to be Decided Next Week, and well, Other News . . .

To start this column, the portion titled “Other News” shall be addressed in a separate post. For the last several weeks, there has been a great deal of gossip circulating throughout the League. The explanation contained in the Other News shall tell the actual story.

Tuesday was a thought-provoking day for golf. Actually, the weather was perhaps the most comfortable it has been this season. That is except for the very short rain shower that caught us on the final hole. Yet there was not good participation, especially since this was the last night before the league championship with a portion of the leaders absent. The points are so close, the participants near the top were separated by as little as 0.25 points. This included 11 of the League members. Therefore, let’s get to the results.

Here are Tuesday’s results.

August 27, 2019:

Scores

Low Net Score (42) James Chaffin

Low Gross Score (34) James Chaffin

Skills Competition

Closest to the pin (#8) Charlie Curnutte

Longest Putt (#14) Tarkey Blackburn

Closest to the pin (#12) J. Lynn See

Longest Drive (#7) James Chaffin

Closest 2nd shot (#11) Mike Hogan

Fewest Putts (13) Mike Hogan

Now we shall catch up on some of the previous scores.

First, a short recap of August 13, 2019.

Laine Hughes shot a 4 under par 32 on the back nine, the longer, but more accessible nine holes. This 4 under par score tied the lowest league record. The round included 5-birdies. This score on August 13, combined with the league record tieing 4 under 31 shot on August 6, set a New 18 Hole League Record of an 8 under par 63! WOW! This is a new record for two reasons: Laine has tied the best ever score to both nine holes, the past top scores were held by two different people, and, more importantly, this record occurred on successive weeks. Great job Laine!

The following is an update for the scores and recap on August 21, 2019.

August 21, 2019.

Scores

Low Net Score (27) Judge Jon Chaffin

(29) Tyler Brewer

Low Gross Score (33) Laine Hughes

Skills Competition

Closest to the pin (#17) Elvis Clark

Longest Putt (#18) Laine Hughes

Closest to the pin (#3) James Chaffin

Longest Drive (#4) Jeff Thompson

Closest 2nd shot (#5) Charlie Curnutte

Now to recap what is going to occur, next week, September 3, 2019. There will be a League Championship, consisting of the first-half winner (James Chaffin), the second-half winner, and the leader in points for the season. For those not participating in the League Championship, there will be Ryder Cup type of event, wherein a championship challenge between two teams that will be played.

Well, as Bugs says, “that’s all folks.”

See you on the course.
