The incident at Blaine is part of a growing sense of the need for protection in their homes, especially in rural areas.
TWO LAWRENCE COUNTY MEN NAMED IN THE ATTEMPTED HOME INVASION OF HOME WHERE 3 YOUNG GIRLS WERE HOME ALONE, CAUSING ONE GIRL TO FIRE WARNING SHOT AT THE SUSPECTS
THE SUSPECTS IN THE LAWRENCE COUNTY ATTEMPTED HOME INVASION LEFT, MELVIN GARNER HARMON JR., AND RIGHT WILLIAM J. WILKS.

WEBBVILLE MEN HAD ALREADY BEEN JAILED DAYS EARLIER ON UNRELATED OFFENSES BEFORE THEY WERE NAMED AS THE ALLEGED MEN IN THE ATTEMPTED HOME INVASION BY CASTLE

AUGUST 12, 2019 – written by WADE QUEEN

A pair of Lawrence County men who were arrested Friday in separate unrelated criminal charges, have preliminarily been identified as the two men who attempted to break into a house last Sunday August 4, in Blaine, where three young sisters were home alone, leading to the youngest girl, who was 14, to retrieve a handgun for defense, and loaded the gun and fired a warning shot at the two would be robbers, causing to flee from the the residence area.

In a statement released on social media on Sunday, August 11, by Lawrence County Constable-District 4 Daniel Castle, it was reported that the two men who where identified in the case, Melvin Garner Harmon Jr., 28, of Webbville, and William J. Wilks, 56, of Webbville, had separately been arrested on Friday, August 9, in two separate cases unrelated to each other, nor to the attempted home invasion case.

William Wilks was arrested Friday night August 9, by Lawrence County Constable-District 1 Paul Wells on the charges of:
• WANTON ENDANGERMENT-1ST DEGREE,
• PERSISTENT FELONY OFFENDER II.
William Wilks has since posted his bail bond and has been released from custody at the BSRDC

As for Melvin Harmon Jr., on Wednesday, August 7, Harmon was one of three suspects in drug bust traffic stop by Constable Castle in Webbville, where he was arrested  and was charged with:
 • PUBLIC INTOXICATION CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE(EXCLUDES ALCOHOL),
• DRUG PARAPHERNALIA – BUY/ POSSESS,
• TAMPERING WITH PHYSICAL EVIDENCE,
• FAILURE TO WEAR SEAT BELTS.

Harmon ate his drug evidence, causing him to overdose later on, and having to be given two shots of Narcan by Castle. Harmon was taken to Three Rivers Medical Center, where he was kept for 3 days until August 9, where he was taken into custody by Constable Castle for not only his charges from traffic stop and the drug bust, but also a bench warrant on the charges of
• CRIMINAL TRESPASSING, 3RD DEGREE,
• DRUG PARAPHERNALIA – BUY/ POSSESS.
Melvin Harmon Jr. was then finally identified. along with William Wilks., as the two men who attempted the burglary in Blaine.

No information has been released regarding how Harmon and Wilks were identified in the Blaine break-in; and the Blaine home invasion case remains under investigation at this time.
