Tolsia High School 2019 high honors and summa cum laude graduate Maegan (Maggie) Ellison is the recipient of this year’s FGHS Memorial Scholarship to Marshall University, awarded by the Fort Gay High School Alumni Association.

In her time at Tolsia, Maggie completed four AP courses along with five college courses.  She plans to major in biochemistry at Marshall, and then to attend medical school to become a primary care pediatrician. She is the daughter of Ellen and Barney Newhouse of Fort Gay.

2019 is the 20th anniversary of the Fort Gay High School Alumni Association, which was formed with the motto Giving Something Back, focusing on awarding the FGHS Memorial Scholarship to Marshall each year to a Tolsia High School student.  Tolsia High School was chosen because it was formed by the merger of the former Crum and Fort Gay High Schools.  And indeed the group has given something back, awarding scholarships to 28 Tolsia students over the years, totaling $151,556.

The organization conducts fundraisers every year, including an alumni banquet as well as a golf tournament.  This year’s 6th annual Joe Damron Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, August 31, at Eagle Ridge course at Yatesville State Park in Louisa, KY.  Contact Paul Salmons at 606-652-4048 for further information about the tournament.
