LOUISA, KY. — President Donald trump has approved FEMA coverage for 58 Kentucky counties including Lawrence.
Lawrence County Deputy-Judge Vince Doty said yesterday the county does not know the dollar amount it will receive because assessments are still being made.
” Lawrence County is still working with FEMA on the February declaration, Doty said. “We are still assessing the dollar amount totals for the event”
“One thing a lot of people don’t like is that this emergency declaration doesn’t include private dwellings or property,” Lawrence County EMS coordinator Tim Ellis said. “We have identified at least ten families that had their homes damaged but that wasn’t enough to qualify us for the private FEMA money”
Doty said the county had to get the needed number of damaged public properties assessed in order to qualify for the much needed funding.
“So far the county has recorded in excess of over thirty county-wide issues ranging from slips, slides, breaks in roads, bridges, culvert damage and road damage,” Doty said. ” FEMA representatives will meet with the county again to determine the exact dollar amount of damage.”
