LADY DAWGS COME UP SHORT IN 58TH DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP

LOUISA, KY.  —  Floyd Central ( 27-2 ) won their second straight Girls 58th District Championship with a 58-45 victory over Lawrence Co. ( 22-10 ) Wednesday night at the Dawg House.

Both teams started the game well as the Lady Jaguars led 15-14 after one period.

In the second quarter the Lady Bulldogs battled foul trouble and only mustered seven points and trailed by ten at halftime 31-21.

In the third quarter the Lady Dawgs caught fire and out scored the Lady Jaguars 19-12 and trailed by only three heading into the final stanza 43-40.

In the final period both teams battled for the title and Floyd Central had a little more firepower and captured the Championship.

Lawrence Co. was led by Kensley Feltner with 15 points, Lexi Ratliff finished with 12 points, Kyleah Ward tallied 8 points, Brooke Neal 5 points, Kylie Maynard 3 points, Kaison Ward 2 points.

Lawrence Co. hit 4 three pointers and went 5-8 from the free throw line.

Floyd Central was led by Katie Jo Moore with 24 points, Lauren Preston 13 points, Brooke Stumbo 10 points, Kaylie Moore 9 points and Grace Martin 2 points.

Floyd Central went 18-25 from the free throw line.

LCHS 14 7 19 5 = 45
FCHS 15 16 12 15 = 58

Both teams will advance to the 15th Region Tournament next week at the East Ky Expo Center.

COACH’S COMMENTS

“… The game was a lot closer than the final score, we were down five late in the game and had a few chances but didn’t make the plays. Really proud of our girls for the effort the last two nights. Battled some foul trouble in the first half but really played well in the third quarter and showed what we are capable of.”

“… We are looking forward to the regional tourney next week in Pikeville. We are 22-10 which if the most wins since Roger Harless was here.”
