FISCAL COURT APPROVES UPGRADES FOR ‘THE COVE’ AT YATESVILLE LAKE

SULLIVAN UNIVERSITY LOUISA HAS HAD 168 STUDENTS SINCE STARTUP

LOUISA, KY – Tuesday’s Regular Fiscal Court Meeting agenda covered approval’s for budgets and heard from Sullivan University, Legend Outfitters and the LCHS FFA.

Fiscal Court’s Regular Meeting began with an opening prayer and pledge of allegiance led by Judge Executive Phillip Carter. The meeting was then called to order and business began.

  • The approval of minutes of the January 29th meeting was approved by motion of David Pinson, District Three Magistrate and seconded by Rick Blackburn, District Four Magistrate. All in favor.
  • The approval of 2nd Reading of Budget Amendment #4 was approved by motion of Rick Blackburn, District Four Magistrate and seconded by Mike Halcomb, District One Magistrate.
  • Next Approve Treasures Request was approved by motion of John Scaggs, District One Magistrate and seconded by Mike Halcomb, District One Magistrate.
  • The approval to pay bills was approved by motion of Rick Blackburn, District Four Magistrate and seconded by David Pinson, District Three Magistrate.
  • Accept Treasurer’s Report was approved by motion of David Pinson, District Three Magistrate and seconded by Mike Halcomb, District One Magistrate.

Sullivan University’s David Keene, Vice President-Community Partnerships, took to the podium to discuss their past success and their plans to move forward in the future. Since opening in March 2016, 200 students have enrolled in their program and 168 students have attended classes. Sullivan University offers a 20% tuition discount to 12 local counties including Wayne County, WV. They have partnerships with the fiscal court, Addiction Recovery Center Programs and are currently working on establishing a partnership with Brown Food Service to create an Excel class for the company’s management staff.

Sullivan University facility allows space for meetings held in the community for free. They also support local and regional organizations. David Keene made this comment, “Thanks fiscal court for your long and lasting relationship”.

Legend Outfitters were approved to do their renovations to “The Cove” long as the Core of Engineers approve it and proper insurance is carried. The Mini Putt Putt Course and Store on Rt. 32 returns to Lawrence County. The motion was made by Rick Blackburn, District Four Magistrate and seconded by David Pinson, District Three Magistrate. All in favor.

Next the approval to give the Old Fallsburg Fire Department back to the Department was approved by Mike Halcomb, District One Magistrate and seconded by Rick

The Approval of Resolution Supporting Addressing the Modernization of Kentucky’s Transportation Funding was tabled to the next meeting after Mike Hogan, County Attorney, pointed out the approval would raise gas taxes. The motion to table it to the next meeting was approved by David Pinson, District Three Magistrate and seconded by Rick Blackburn, District Four Magistrate.

Homeland Security Grants for Lowmansville Fire Department were approved by motion of David Pinson, District Three Magistrate and seconded by Rick Blackburn, District Four Magistrate. Lowmansville Fire Department represented by Tom Dancy and Ray Dixon agreed to allow mutual aid for all county Departments and the city.

The approval for Area Development Fund Capital Improvement Projects for Courthouse upgrades was approved motion of  by Mike Halcomb, District One Magistrate and seconded by Rick Blackburn, District Four Magistrate.

The Resolution between KACO and LC Fiscal Court for future lending was approved by Mike Halcomb, District One Magistrate and seconded by Rick Blackburn, District Four Magistrate.

The LCHS Future Farmers of America (FFA) took the opportunity to thank Fiscal Court for their continued support and presented the Judge and Magistrates with a special pin in recognition of the FFA.

The adjournment of Fiscal Court was approved by Rick Blackburn, District Four Magistrate and seconded by Mike Halcomb, District One Magistrate.
