Mavis B. Castle, 94 of Fort Gay, WV, went to be with the Lord Sunday, January 13, 2019 at J.J. Jordan Center in Louisa, KY.

She was born April 30, 1924 in Fort Gay, WV, a daughter of Forrest and Ivia Chapman Bartram.  Mavis was a retired vocational rehab counselor and was a lifetime member of Bartram Chapel Community Church.  During WWII she moved to Baltimore and worked as “Rosie the Riveter.”

She was also a member of the D.A.R. Louisa Chapter, the Humana Senior’s Circle in Louisa, KY and was a foster grandparent for over 30 years where she read books to children in Wayne County Schools.  Every year she gave the kindergarten students a children’s book for Christmas and loved each one of them. She was very proud to represent Wayne County as a WV Belle and to have the “Mavis Granny Castle Bridge” on Sunnyside Road named after her.   Her husband, John “Bud” Castle, Jr. also preceded her in death, along with three sisters, Carnas Branham, Jerie Savage and Dorothy Wilson; and a brother, Archie Bartram.

Survivors include her loving son, Larry Castle and wife, Connie of Fort Gay, WV; two grandchildren, Jamie Castle (Elizabeth), Tiffany Roberts; two great grandchildren, Mason Roberts, Nikayla Roberts; a sister-in-law, Eula “Boots” Caudill; a brother-in-law, Bascom Castle; and a host of nieces nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Bartram Chapel Community Church with Mack Ray Cyrus and Bobby Daniels officiating.  Burial to follow at Castle Cemetery, Fort Gay.

The family would like to thank the staff at J.J. Jordon Center for their extraordinary care over the past two years.

Morris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
