Rotary Hears downside to over commitment, Special Election Coming and new drivers license for all
Yesterday, Thursday Jan. 10th Louisa Rotary met for their weekly meeting. After the community prayer, Pledge of Allegiance and reciting the Four Way Test, the meeting began. Vice President Elaine Desario stood in for President Steve Lycans in announcing the speaker for the week, Rotarian and Louisa County Clerk Chris Jobe.
Jobe also commented on how all of the newly elected officials in Lawrence County were hard at it, getting settled into their new roles.
With that subject, Rotary member and Circuit Clerk Jodi Parsley spoke a little about another upcoming change that will impact every citizen of the United States. We will all be getting new driver’s license. (See Lazer story)
Parsley stated she had some info considering she is on the committee and would be speaking to the club as a whole when she knew more. As of now, she spoke about the first time around having a choice to get either a 4 year license or an 8 year license.
That will help on the financial front for the citizens of Lawrence County. The next time, all license holders MUST buy an 8 year license. She also said that the fee will be quite a bit higher for those.
Other points brought up were that no matter how long you’ve had your driver’s license, you will still need the original documents to obtain them as if you were getting them for the first time. A birth certificate with the seal of Ky. and a Social security card not laminated. No copies of either will be accepted.
She also explained that unlike now, you will not leave with your new license. You will get your old one with a hole punch and paperwork. The license itself will be mailed to you by the federal government.
“They are still ironing out some kinks, and as soon as I know more, I’ll speak to Rotary about all of the details and get all of the information out to the public,” Parsley said. “Many changes for all of us to get prepared for!”
With that, the meeting was adjourned for the week.
