LOUISA MAN SLAPPED WITH FELONY ASSAULT ON POLICE OFFICER, PLUS 2 OTHER CHARGES, AFTER CRASHING INTO PATROL CRUISER

MOTHER OF SUSPECT SAYS ON SOCIAL MEDIA TO PRAY FOR HER SON, SAYS HAS NOT BEEN RIGHT IN HIMSELF SINCE DEATH OF HIS BROTHER (WHO HAD A EVEN LONGER CRIMINAL ARREST RECORD) WAS KILLED HIT AND KILLED BY CAR ON POINT SECTION  BY LOUISA FIRE FIGHTER

DECEMBER 22, 2018 – written by WADE QUEEN
JAMES ARTHUR MULLETT, WHO CRASHED INTO LPD VEHICLE DRIVEN BY LOUISA POLICE SERGEANT ED CORLDE, (LEFT) RESULTING IN INJURY TO CORDLE.

A Louisa man remains jailed after an early Wednesday evening crash involving him (driving intoxicated) headlong into a Louisa Police Department cruiser driven by veteran Louisa Police sergeant Ed Cordle that resulted in officer Cordle being seriously hurt and had to be flown out to Cabell Med Center for treatment.
The man who was arrested for the wreck, 35 year old James Arthur Mullet, marks his latest run in with local law enforcement, as he has had numerous arrests in Lawrence County over the years.

But his latest arrest may see the possibility of being given serious jail some time in the not so distant future, as not only was he charged with driving intoxicated (technically not his first time), as well as felony drug possession, but Mullett has been slapped with one of the most serious felony assault charges, that is enhanced because it involves a police officer.

James Arthur Mullett was charged with:

• OPERATING MOTOR VEHICLE UNDER/INFLUENCE ALCOHOL/DRUGS/ETC. .08 (AGGRAVATING CIRCUMSTANCES) 1ST OFFENSE,
• POSSESSION CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE 1ST DEGREE, 1ST OFFENSE (METHAMPHETAMINE). But Mullett was additionally given a most serious added charge:
• ASSAULT, 1ST DEGREE – POLICE OFFICER – a Class A felony that comes with a prison sentence of 10 to 20 years.

James Arthur Mullett was taken into custody by Lawrence County Sheriff Department deputy Mason Keefer, and the wreck investigation is being conducted by the Kentucky State Police.

This latest run in (literally speaking) with the police marks the 10th arrest in Lawrence County in just under 19 years, (since January 1, 2006); on a total of 34 charges, consisting of various felonies, misdemeanors, and motor vehicle and other citations.

In a posting on social media, James Arthur Mullett’s mother, Mae Mullett, stated that while her son is at fault for the wreck, she asked for prayers for her son, adding that James had “not been dealing with the death of his brother”, Christopher Paul Mullett, who died after being struck by an oncoming pickup truck this past summer.

According to the Kentucky State Police in Ashland investigation report, Christopher Mullett was killed after being fatally struck in the evening of July 10, around 10:24 pm, while walking along the roadway at the intersection of KY 3 South and See Chapel Road in Lawrence County, KY.

Blake Hammond, age 23, of Louisa, KY was operating a 1997 Chevy Silverado and was traveling North on KY 3 in the area of See Chapel Road. Hammond approached Christopher Mullett, who was walking in the travel portion of the northbound lane of KY 3.

Hammond, a member of the Louisa Volunteer Fire department., attempted to avoid Mullett and steered into the southbound lane, but the front right bumper of the vehicle struck Mullett causing multiple injuries. Hammond stopped and began rendering aid until EMS arrived on scene.

Christopher Paul Mullett, age 39,  was transported by Air Evac to Cabell Huntington Hospital. At 11:30 pm Mullett was pronounced deceased by medical staff.

Christopher Mullett had an even more extensive criminal record in Lawrence County than his younger brother, having been arrested 16 times in the 13 years (since November 2006), on 34 criminal charges.

Jamie may have been in the wrong here, but the comment about his mother defending him is a bit too much. That is her child and no matter what your child does you still
Love them. She ask for PRAYERS and admitted he was in the wrong and that I’m my opinion is saying a lot. Yes he has a criminal record, yes he has wronged many people including his family, but instead of placing blame and judgement try hitting your knees and praying for this family. We live in a world where addiction reigns and those two aren’t the only ones in the community with a “rap sheet a mile long”.

A mother will defend her children no matter what. It’s human nature for her to do that. On the other hand, this guy should have been sent to prison a long time ago instead of going through the revolving door of theLawrence County Court System. Our police arrest them and the Curt’s turn them loose. I hope this guys gets what he deserves this time. Get well soon Ed.

HOW CAN YOU NOT FEEL FOR JAMES TOO? YOU NEED TO WALK A MILE IN THEIR SHOES BEFORE YOU CRITICIZE! Any TRUE mother is going to defend their kids no matter what! Are any of you in their shoes? Are you God? Levisa Lazer…you don’t have the NERVE to talk to Mae!

As a mother I am including all involved in my prayers, this mother, her son , Blake Hammond & family. Pain from a breaking heart can’t be controlled – if you can’t take it to God who can you take it to? I
