Sheriff Rick Thompson reports that yesterday evening the Wayne County Sheriff Drug Enforcement Unit completed a thorough investigation into a complaint of someone impersonating a police officer. Specifically the impersonator identified himself as the Drug Enforcement Unit during the stop.

The victim contacted 911 November 22nd and reported the incident that happened in the Rt 75 area of Wayne County. The victim described the suspect vehicle as a charcoal 2 door Jeep wrangler to the Wayne County Sheriff Drug Enforcement Unit and provided other details. The victim was with his wife and child when the incident occurred.

The Wayne County Sheriff Drug Enforcement Unit identified Justice Staley, 21, of Prichard, as the suspect. Justice admitted to the Drug Enforcement Unit that he made one stop with a blue light that he purchased during an interview. Justice is currently on probation from a 2017 case where the Drug Enforcement Unit arrested him with a large amount of Crystal Methamphetamine.

Sheriff Thompson stated that this was an isolated incident contrary to social media. There have been no other incidents reported. The Drug Enforcement Unit is in the process of filing a criminal complaint for impersonating a police officer and the suspect will be
