NOVEMBER 30, 2018 – written by WADE QUEEN

DAVID EUGENE ROBINSON

The Kentucky State Police Post 9 in Pikeville have opened a death investigation in Martin County on Thursday as they are investigating the death of a solid waste employee.

According to the report from the KSP, Post 9 received a call from the Martin County Sheriff Department just before 9 A.M., Thursday, November 29, 2018, requesting a trooper respond to KY 292 at Lovely to investigate the death of a solid waste employee.

The state police report indicated that The worker was thought to have fallen off the back of the truck he was riding on.

Upon arrival, the trooper determined that the victim had possibly fallen from the vehicle onto the roadway and succumbed to injuries that he received.

The worker, identified as David Eugene Robinson, 45, of Lovely, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Martin County Deputy Coroner James Mollet.

Officials said an autopsy had been scheduled for Friday, November 30, in Frankfort.
The case remains under investigation by trooper Billy Hall.

DEATH LEAVES LOCAL COMMUNITY ‘STUNNED & HEARTBROKEN’

In the day after the tragic death of David Eugene Robinson, his family and friends are reflecting on his life.

“He’s the kind of guy you could call at 2 o’clock in the morning and say, hey Dave, I need you to go down here’ and he’d say ‘where do I meet you at,’” said Martin Co. Judge/Exec. Kelly Callaham.

Callaham was friends with David Eugene Robinson and saw him just a few days ago. “We had a good conversation and he hugged me when he left,” Callaham said.

Kelly Callaham, owner of callaham Funeral Home in Inez, is not only getting over the shock, but also preparing his funeral.

“It just makes it so difficult when you bury your friends,” Callaham said. “David was a hard-working, Wildcat fan who loved God and it just hurts deep down, he was such a good person.”

But Kelly Callaham said he knows he will see his friend again in the future.

“He’s sitting on the pearly gates right now,”  Callaham said.
