LOUISA, KY. — Coming off a 20 win season and another 15th Region appearance. The Lady Bulldogs will be gunning for more in 2018/19 behind a mix of veterans and young talent for Head Coach Melinda Feltner who is headed into her sixth season at the helm for Lawrence Co.

2018/19 Lady Dawgs

L to R Bottom –  Emmalee Holt, Tyra Hammond, Shelby Blevins, Sheree Hay, Ella Webb, Kylie Maynard, Kelly Davis.
L to R Top  – Abby Nelson, Kensley Feltner, Brooke Neal, Kaison Ward, Kyleah Ward, Emilea Preece, Lexi Ratliff

The Lady Dawgs will be led by All Area selection in Junior Lexie Ratliff who averaged 14.2 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. Ratliff will move to shooting guard and 8th grader Kensley Feltner will step in and run the point this season. Freshman Kyleah Ward who stands 6-1 will assume a bigger role this year. 7th grader Kaison Ward who is 6-0 will also see minutes and should help down low.

Lawrence Co. has a trio of seniors who spearheaded the Soccer team to the state tourney will provide experience as Kelly Davis was also the leading rebounder at 8.7 per game and Sheree Hay does the little things and Kylie Maynard who set out last season should be the teams best player on defense.

Sophomore Ellie Webb and 8th Grader Brooke Neal will provide some much needed depth.

The Lady Bulldogs will have three seniors, one junior, one sophomore, two freshman, three 8th graders and four 7th graders on the varsity roster to begin the year.

Lawrence Co. will play a challenging schedule this season as they travel to the always tough Berea Holiday Classic and participate in the first ever Class 2A Region tournament at Magoffin Co. in early January along with Hosting the 58th District tournament.

The Lady Dawgs will open the season at home vs Morgan Co. on Wednesday and then travel to Fairview on Thursday.

COACH’S COMMENTS

“…The younger kids have really pushed the older kids in practice and it’s making the older players pick it up.”

“… It was great to win 20 games last year. It was one of our goals.  The girls worked really hard to achieve that and I’m so proud of them. We also made the Region tourney again but that didn’t go so well. Johnson Central beat us by 33 points and the kids know the score because I hung it up in the locker room. This summer we played and beat them so we feel good with where we are right now.”

“…We lost Kendra Spaulding and Hannah Rucker who scored 20 points per game but I think we can make that up and some more with the younger players we have stepping in.”
