All Board of Education members were present except chairman Heath Preston at the meeting and joined in the discussion concerning school safety and implementing solar panels to help with high energy bills.

The Lawrence County Board of Education met on November 15, 2018 for their monthly meeting to discuss various topics. One important topic on the agenda was The New School Safety measures being put into place.

The BOE has installed cameras on school buses in the county. There are 3 cameras on each bus; one in front, one in middle and one on the end. They are equipped with recording videos and sound.

The next Safety Measures are being implanted soon, Supt. Fletcher said.

“The old system was so outdated they would have to have all new cameras for the children’s safety,” Fletcher told the board.  “We are currently taking bids on the installation for the new system. and hope to have it completed soon.”

Another topic was the installation of solar panels to the school this is something in the works and all the details have not been figured out but Dr. Fletcher said he is visiting other schools to see how their solar panel project is up and running for ideas on how to put them in at LCHS.

If you were wondering why no fall break it’s because the B.O.E decided to take the 3 days from fall break and add them to Thanksgiving Break giving everyone more time off.

The BOE has now been able to start their pre-school program at The Trinity Daycare in Louisa.  It’s available to the entire Lawrence County area.

The BOE ended their meeting discussing Dr. Fletcher’s Personnel Action/Update.
