Chapter donates flag to Louisa Middle School

THE LOUISA CHAPTER DAR MET ON OCTOBER 23, 2018 IN THE CAFE OF THE LOUISA FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH. Regent Sabrina May called the meeting to order. The secretary’s report was read by Lynn Courtney and Treasurer’s report by Evelyn DeBoard.

According to the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution the local chapter was organized in the early 1940’s.

“…On October 30, 1942 the Louisa Chapter was organized Effie Fraley McGuire. Thus being the 76th anniversary. Mrs. Mcguire was the first Regent from 1941-1945. The chapter was named for the City of Louisa, Kentucky. Historians have called Louisa the seat of Lawrence County, Kentucky, and which was named for Louisa Ward, the first white child born on the town site. Her Revolutionary ancestor was Captain Thomas Bragg, born 1718, died 1808.”

The chapter also:

  • State Literary Chair and Louisa 1st Vice Regent Patricia Hatfield announced plans for the annual book giveaway for Family Literacy Day to be on November 1st in front of Food City who will be furnishing free cookies for the event. Also the Furry Friend will be present.
  • Historian Theresa Chaffin announced the Veterans appreciation Day will be held in the old courthouse lobby on November 9th from 11:00 to 2:00. All Veterans are invited to come down and see old friends and enjoy sandwiches, cookies, coffee and water.
  • A new American Flag was donated to Louisa Middle School by the Louisa Chapter DAR. Regent Sabrina May presented the flag to principal Joey Cecil.

Tuesday December 11,2018 has been set for the Chapter’s Christmas dinner. Cost of the catered dinner by Rebel Barn will be $15.00 and the deadline for payment is due by November 29th, 2018.It will be held in the Cafe.

The hostesses for the night were Patricia Hatfield, Patty Ferrell, and Peggy Nelson. Everyone enjoyed homemade potato soup, chicken sandwiches, chips, cheese and crackers and an assortment of cookies and brownies.

Next meeting will be on Tuesday November 27th at 6:00 pm in the Cafe of the Louisa First Baptist Church.
